Questions To Ask Yourself

Posted by in Career Advice

You’re all wired up, ready for your job interview in the Sales job field. However, have you thought about what questions you should be asking yourself before the interview? Here are some pertinent questions that you may want answers for before considering taking the job.

1. What type of work are you going to actually be doing? Sometimes the job description differs from the actual job. An ad that may say "needed, looking for people with outgoing personality and flexible work hours” could mean telemarketing as opposed to car sales.

2. What size of organization do you want to work for? If you are used to working for a small company that is family orientated, working for a large impersonal company may not be for you. On the other hand, if you’ve worked for a large company, you may find a small company stifling and too personal.

3. What hours are you willing to work? Some jobs are full time, part time, during the day or evening. What about shift work? Some jobs have that type of work schedule and expect their employees to work it without complaint. Do you like working with little supervision or would it bother you to be micromanaged?

4. What if it involves travel away from home? If there is travel involved, how far are you willing to go? Is it spread out evenly or concentrated during certain busy seasons or business cycles? Do you want to stay local? What about commuting? If so, how far would you have to go and how long would it take? Will it interfere with your ability to do things with your significant other and/or children? Are you willing to uproot your family if you have to? Are you willing to travel out of the country?

5. What type of wages are you looking for? Are you planning on commission work? How about fixed wages or a combination of the two? What kind of perks does this job include, if any? Pension? Car? Phone? Are you willing to take a decrease from your last salary to take this job? What kind of growth opportunities are there? Is there an incentive pay if you perform above the expectations of the company?

6. Do you know anything about the company values? Is the top management someone who you would respect, admire and want to work for? Are they respected in the community?

These are just some questions that may help you decide if the job you’re going for is really the job you want. Once you have the answers to these and other questions you may have, you can make a clear, concise decision on your future.
