As a Veterinary Technician in our surgery department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of surgical procedures and the well-being of our patients.
Some duties will include:Conduct pre-surgical examinations and obtain medical histories.
Administer pre-anesthetic medications and monitor patient responses.
Insert and manage IV catheters for fluid therapy and medication administration.
Sterilize and set up surgical instruments and equipment.
Assist in tissue handling, retraction, and other tasks as directed.
Record all data accurately for the medical record.
Adjust anesthesia levels and administer additional medications as needed.
Provide postoperative care, including pain management and wound care.
Ensure the surgical suite is disinfected and ready for the next procedure.
Explain postoperative care instructions to pet owners and provide updates on the patient's condition.
Accurately document all aspects of the surgical procedure, including anesthesia records, patient monitoring data, and postoperative care.
Ensure the surgical area complies with veterinary medical standards and guidelines.
Basic Required Qualifications:
High school diploma
Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interface with staff and clients using tact, patience, professional courtesy, and exhibit confidentiality and discretion where appropriate
Consistent and reliable ability to monitor anesthesia, perform mathematical calculations for drug doses, CRIs, client invoices and estimates, and other position-related calculations
Maintain the California Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP); must obtain within 60-days of hire or transfer into this role; (this requirement is waived if incumbent holds a valid CA-RVT license.
Proficient in anesthesia administration and monitoring.
Strong technical skills and attention to detail.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Compassionate approach to patient care.
