    PAY RATE: $20 - $23/hr

    Duties include instructing youth in the fundamentals of gymnastics, teaching proper techniques through controlled assistance and progressions, teaching CARA gymnastics routines, acting as the liaison between CARA Gymnastics and the City of Lakewood, and working closely with participants and parents.

    MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES. (This job description does not intend to list every function of the position).

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    Must be energetic, a positive motivator and team player.

    Previous experience in a structured gymnastics environment required.

    Previous experience coaching level 4-5 gymnastics.

    Must be confident spotting advanced gymnastics skills and leading fun classes.

    USA Gymnastics and CARA Safety Certification and CPR/First Aid Certifications are preferred or must be obtained within first 3 months of hire date.

    Must attend all CARA Gymnastics meetings and trainings.

    Flexibility to attend meets during competition seasons.

    Must attend required staff meetings.

    Ability to complete administrative duties to communicate schedules, class, and meet information to participants and parents.

    Minimum age requirement is 18 years old.

    Criminal background check is required.

    HOURS OF WORK

    Monday and Wednesday evenings 4:30-8:30pm.

    2 Fridays per session additional practices.

    Fridays-Sundays as requested for meets during competition season (late spring/early summer).

    Additional hours as needed for meetings and administrative work.

    ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

    Supervision Received:

    Receives general supervision from Recreation Coordinator - Youth Programs

    ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

    Education:

    Technical knowledge of the sport of USAG Level 3 and up, or Excel Level Bronze or higher.

    Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    Ability to perform the basic maneuvers of the sport of gymnastics.

    Ability to spot participants at a more advanced level during gymnastics.

    Good vision, balance, coordination, arm/hand/leg movements.

    Ability to give good, clear verbal direction to groups of 10 or more.

    Ability to motivate and work with children and adults of all abilities.

    Ability to follow supervisor's instructions.

    Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

    Ability to deal effectively with emergency situations.

    Ability to demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.

    Ability to be flexible in work schedule.

    PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

    Lifting or Carrying

    Ability to lift and carry floor mats/equipment in and out of closet with assistance. Must be able to support the weight of gymnastics participants.

    Pushing and Pulling:

    Ability to set up and take down gymnastic apparatus.

    Ability to roll/unroll gymnastic mats.

    Body Positions/Movements:

    Ability to stand, walk, run, sit, bend, stoop, squat, twist, reach.

    Ability to work with participants at different heights and angles.

    Hearing:

    Must be able to communicate with staff and participants via phone and in person.

    Vision:

    Must be able to instruct, observe, and demonstrate all class program aspects.

    Must be able to observe potentially dangerous maneuvers.

    MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

    Remembering:

    Must remember participants' names and abilities, follow-up with participants, parents, staff, and recall how to respond to emergency situations.

    Must remember policies and procedures and apply them accordingly.

    Language Ability

    Must be able to read accurately.

    Must be able to demonstrate logic and verbally communicate.

    Reasoning:

    Must be able to demonstrate good judgement and assessment of skills.

    Must be able to demonstrate sound decision making skills and be reactive to the needs of the participants in providing intervention to injury.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    Work is performed in a gymnasium. Interaction with participants and parents, co-workers and general public.

    $14.42-$57.21

    Background and reference checks will be conducted for all regular and some variable/seasonal positions.
