    General Summary Statement

    Responsible for the effective daily coordination and monitoring of patient transportation service activities through timely and accurate dispatch and management of customer transportation request and efficient assignments of transport personnel. Transports patients, specimens, blood and blood products, charts, medical records, and other documents, linens, and Central Supply Equipment/supplies as requested, in a safe and timely manner. Supports the mission of The Chester County Hospital and the Transport Services Department.

    Transporter Duties

    1. Transports patients via wheelchair or stretcher using safety measures appropriate for patient and vehicle.

    2. Uses proper body mechanics when transferring patient during ambulation and bed - chair transfers.

    3. Uses appropriate equipment, e.g. Hovermat and Hoverjack when needed.

    4. Transports patients for internal tests and transports discharged patients to exit.

    5. Uses communication resources such as the interdepartmental transport sheet to ascertain patient's needs such as portable oxygen, isolation precautions, etc.

    6. Reports to transportation destination in a timely manner to pick-up patient.

    7. Maintains hallways, keeping clear of all unused equipment.

    8. Ensures proper operation of hardware, software programs, page and phone handling systems; is able to troubleshoot and work with Information Systems (IT).

    9. Is familiar with the operation of the SOS system, and closes work orders as requested

    10. Functions as a liaison between Patient Transportation and other departments

    Education Training and Experience

    High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Must complete on the job orientation and training as scheduled. Ability to speak, understand, read and write English. Positive customer service skills are essential.

    Licensure/Certification Healthcare provider CPR is required. Must attain this certification during orientation if not certified at the time of hire.
