    Job Description

    AECOM Transportation Engineering / Planning is growing and seeking a dynamic and innovative Transportation Engineer / Planner to join our team.

    The successful candidate will be based in one of our AECOM BC offices, where the multidisciplinary planning team works on a wide range of projects, shaping and delivering transportation solutions for tomorrow across the Metro Vancouver area, Canada, and around the globe.

    • Providing clients with transportation planning services, serving as a technical analyst and/or project engineer/planner, with a focus on traffic engineering and transportation planning projects such as:

    • Roadway/transit planning and functional design

    • Transportation policy studies

    • Input to traffic impact studies

    • Construction traffic management

    • Traffic signal timings analysis

    • Business case assessments for transportation projects

    • Transportation master plan studies

    • Active transportation planning and design projects

    • Environmental assessments for transportation facilities

    • Transportation study peer reviews

    • Preparing documentation related to current or prospective projects, including correspondence, reports, maps, proposals, expressions of interest, specifications, consultation materials, and meeting minutes

    • Communicating and working with other project team members, including mentoring junior-level team members

    • Liaising with and assisting other departments and offices in the provision of transportation planning services to clients

    • Completing work within the prescribed time and budget while maintaining high quality

    • Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

    • Experience undertaking planning studies with large data sets

    • Experience/familiarity with transportation tools (micro/meso/macroscopic levels)

    Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree or higher in Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, or a similar field, with a strong emphasis on transportation planning or engineering

    • 2+ years of experience in transportation planning or engineering, with some experience in transit, active transportation, and/or multimodal projects

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Ideally, 5+ years of experience in transportation planning and project management

    • Master's Degree or higher is advantageous

    • Possesses an engineering license (P.Eng.) or registered professional planner designation (RPP, MCIP) in British Columbia, or is in progress to obtain one of these

    • Contribution to supporting business development activities, including inputs to and/or leading proposals

    • 4-stage modeling methods and travel demand modeling software (e.g., EMME v2 or greater, TransCAD) is an asset

    • Able to perform traffic operations analysis using relevant analytical software

    • Transit service operations and planning practices, as well as transit priority assessments

    • Experience in a professional consulting environment

    • Experience in transportation planning policies and infrastructure economics, including an understanding of transit service systems and revenue forecasting

    • Managing large data sets using Excel (or other tabulation software) and developing macros (using VBA/Excel, Python, etc.)

    • Familiarity with public finance issues related to municipalities and provinces in British Columbia and Canada, including revenue tools and development charges

    • Bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure planning and design, including familiarity with established and emerging design practices locally and globally

    • Transportation demand management and parking policies

    • Experience and understanding of applying analytical outputs from transportation planning modeling tools, such as Synchro, EMME, TransCAD, VISSIM, or equivalents

    • Working knowledge and understanding of current transportation planning, policy, and infrastructure initiatives in the Lower Mainland/BC area, including land use and demographic trends in the region, and general urban planning and related policy issues

    • Leading business development activities and proposals

    • Ability to interpret and apply applicable government codes, ordinances, and regulations

    • Initiates actions necessary to correct deficiencies or violations of regulations

    • Assists with updates and maintenance of Comprehensive Plans, transportation plans, and land development regulations

    • Acts as a liaison between community groups, government agencies, developers, and elected officials in developing neighborhood plans

    • Conducts reviews of various development applications, including plats, permits, site plans, variance requests, and rezonings

    • Conducts extensive research in specific or general project areas

    • Writes and presents formal and technical reports, working papers, and correspondence

    • Identifies community problems, issues, and opportunities in particular neighborhoods that could be mitigated through better community planning

    • Develops long-range plans for communities with common developmental issues

    • Develops strategies to promote economic and community development or efficient land use consistent with community goals

    • Evaluates the adequacy of design/solutions/facilities in meeting current and projected needs

    • Recommends priorities, schedules, and funding sources to implement improvement plans

    • Excellent technical writing skills and experience writing a variety of deliverable types, including technical memoranda, reports, and public-facing documents

    • Strong verbal communication skills, including presentation, facilitation, and listening abilities

    • Proficient working knowledge of using GIS to produce high-quality maps and complete basic network analysis

    • Knowledgeable in Construction Traffic Management practices, including developing Temporary Traffic Management Plans, Traffic Control Plans, temporary traffic signal timings, etc.

    Additional Information

    Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $63,000.00 - $105,000.00.
