    Job Title:Transplant Financial Coordinator (Remote)

    Entity: HUP

    Department: Kidney Transplant

    Location: Remote, but may need to come on site as needed: Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, 3400 Spruce Street, Philadelphia, Pa

    Hours: Full Time, 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm

    Summary

    • The Transplant Financial Coordinator (TFC) is a designated member of the multidisciplinary transplant team and is responsible for providing financial services to the various solid organ transplant programs. The position is responsible for obtaining medical and financial authorization for transplant patients in the various stages of the transplant process. This begins with meeting and counseling the patient at the transplant evaluation visit. Provides insurance verification, medical benefit analysis with respect to transplantation, including benefits for pharmaceuticals. Assesses patient's financial ability to support all phases of transplant case, including post-transplant immunosuppression therapy and transplant related medical procedures. Serves as a financial resource to the patient, their families and or designees and provides ongoing financial counseling and education as necessary. Provides transplant team assessment of patient's medical insurance and help coordinate care with the insurance carrier to maximize potential benefits.

    Responsibilities

    • Strong foundation and knowledge of medical insurance benefits (understanding copays, deductibles, out of pocket expenses, provider networks, etc.)

    • Baseline understanding of Revenue Cycle Management for both professional and hospital claims.

    • Understanding of insurance authorizations and insurance payor portals.

    • Understanding of the phases of transplant care a plus, but not required.

    • Ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing with patients, their families, insurance companies, the transplant multidisciplinary team, and other teams within UPHS.

    • Ability to think critically and wholistically to help patients and the transplant multidisciplinary team navigate complex insurance networks, policies, and potential barriers to transplant care.

    • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with multiple teams, both virtually and in person.

    Education or Equivalent Experience

    • H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)

    • 4+ years of experience in a medical setting either hospital based or large physician practice (required)

    • 2 years of Hospital and Physician billing and strong medical insurance knowledge (required)

    • 1+ years Transplant Financial Coordination or Pre-certification experience (preferred)
