    LASP is searching for a Thermal Engineer to support the development of space flight instrumentation. This position will participate in the design, analysis, fabrication, integration, testing, and operations of present and upcoming space flight instrumentation projects.

    This position is contingent on a successful program win.

    LASP is a world-renowned space science research institute at the University of Colorado Boulder. LASP is one of the top space science research institutes in the country employing approximately 500 scientists, engineers, support personnel, and students. Professional engineers work closely with scientists and assembly technicians in designing and building space flight hardware while helping mentor students as entry-level engineers working on these programs.     What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

    • Responsible for full cycle thermal control system design from initial concept through mission operations.

    • Work closely with scientists and engineers in the design and development of spaceflight hardware.

    • Develop the thermal control system architecture and requirements, work with customers to establish and manage thermal interfaces.

    • Perform thermal analysis of spaceflight hardware, including passive and active thermal control systems, structures, mechanisms, electronics, optical systems, and cryogenic components.

    • Present and defend the thermal control system design to internal and external review teams.

    • Create technical specifications for procured or subcontracted items.

    • Support assembly, integration, and test activities.

    • Plan and direct the thermal vacuum testing of spaceflight hardware, including test plan/procedure development, GSE, staffing, and post-test thermal model correlation.

    • Support proposal efforts with thermal analyses, design, and budgeting.

    • Provide mentoring for students and Level I-III thermal engineers.

    What We Can Offer

    Salary range: $104,237.12 - $164,004.58. We offer a generous retirement plan that includes 200% matching for the first 5% contributed with immediate vesting.

    • Thermal Eng III range: $104,237.12 - $135,583.33

    • Thermal Eng IV range : $126,087.51 - $164,004.58

    Relocation expenses up to the equivalent of one-months' salary (taxable).

    What We Require

    • BS or higher degree in Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, or related technical discipline from an accredited institution.

    • 5-8 years of directly related experience in the field of aerospace thermal engineering and design is required as well as experience with Thermal Desktop or other thermal analysis tools.

    What You Will Need

    • Experience with thermal analysis software (preferably Thermal Desktop).

    • Ability to function well in a team-based environment.

    • Attention to detail.

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    • Be able to show initiative, resourcefulness and creativity.

    • Knowledgeable of spaceflight instruments and spacecraft.

    • Ability to take personal responsibility for projects and work independently.
