  • UPMC is seeking a full-time therapeutic Recreation Specialist. Hours are generally 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday with occasional evening and weekend requirements.

    Occasional holiday work, excluding Christmas and Thanksgiving.

    Purpose:

    Responsible to perform an assessment of the patient based on the physician or practitioner's diagnosis/instructions and implement a treatment program specific to the patient's age and needs.

    Responsibilities:

    • Provides assistance in obtaining assistive devices/durable medical supplies for patients as requested/required.

Identify processes/systems that could lead to inefficient practices, unsafe conditions, errors, or adverse events. Avoid shortcuts to ensure quality and safety measures are not circumvented. Encourage patient and family involvement in processes involving patient safety. Speak up with other service partners to ensure high quality and safety. Report serious events/incidents per policy.

    • Receives, schedules, and provides therapy for referred patients, assigning and supervising support staff as necessary and appropriate.

    • Completes daily documentation (including charges) of patient progress as required by SH, insurance companies, and regulatory agencies.

    • Performs patient assessment based on physician or practitioner's diagnosis/prescription and develops and implements a treatment program appropriate to the patient's age (pediatric, adolescent, or geriatric).

    • Know and follow all organizational/departmental policies/procedures.

    Bachelor Therapeutic Recreation Required

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

    Valid Pennsylvania Drivers License Required. Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) through the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) is required. If providing therapy of any magnitude to inpatients- must obtain FIMS certification within 8 weeks of start date.

    • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

    • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal

    • Act 33 with renewal

    • Act 34 with renewal

    • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
