Description
Provides and maintains essential technical information and assistance on all productions in Theater Emory designated venues. Manages the set and shop equipment budgets and provide the accounting assistant with receipts and information on expenditures promptly.
Works with production staff to determine set and props expenditures and provide alternatives for budget constraints. Supervises the purchase of all construction materials and equipment. Constructs scenery and props. Organizes, oversees, and attends all Theater Emory post-production strikes.
Supervises and schedule crews and work-study students for work calls and daily tasks. Assists in maintaining inventory of equipment, supplies, and storage facilities. Research and devise methods of construction and operation for set and prop pieces. Provides maintenance and custodial support for all MGM spaces, cleaning, repair, and modifications. Other duties as assigned, including designing.
Bachelor's degree with at least 2 years of experience in technical theater, or other performance-based arts discipline preferred. Proficiency in theatrical set construction, safety, drafting, and budgeting required. Master's degree preferred, as position will likely teach a Stagecraft course.
Proficiency in AutoCad, or similar drafting software. Welding experience a plus. Experience working in an academic environment (high school or University) preferred.
Position is as Technical Director for Theater Emory, the producing organization, affiliated with the Dept. of Theater Studies.
Supervise the full-time Assistant Technical Director.
Create construction and load-in calendars.
Attend all production meetings.
Provide for part-time contractual employees and supervise their activities for deadline completion.
Assist in maintaining drawings and ground plans of spaces.
Maintain a cooperative atmosphere for the production team, staff, actors, and students while providing the necessary requirements for their work and well-being.
Facilitate design continuity and interpretation between designers, directors, actors, and students.
Facilitate the integration of stagecraft students through class and lab projects to complement the academic programs of Theater Emory/Theater Studies.
If candidate has a Master's Degree, is eligible to teach the Stagecraft course through the academic dept.
Mentor and coordinate the activities of the various student-performing groups with Theater Emory and the student guideline handbook.
Maintain open communication with the Artistic Director, Managing Director, and Production Manager.
NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
