    SMX is seeking a Communications/Systems Architecture Technician to support a Combat Support Agency of the United States Department of Defense. The position is located at Fort Belvoir, VA. The candidate will serve as a communications expert within the unit supported, maintain all communications equipment and support training events for the military unit and civilian personnel. This position is supporting an active team and will require CONUS and OCONUS travel for short and possible long durations is required.

    This position requires a DoD TS/SCI security clearance which requires US citizenship for work on DoD contracts.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Develop and then maintain MPU-5 Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET)'s for test/evaluation in all operational environments

    • Utilize Android Team Awareness Kit (ATAK) and MPU-5 radios to integrate live video and sensor data from small, unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS) into a Common Operating Picture (COP)

    • Provide support to the military unit for exercises, and operations in all operational and physical environments (air, land, and sea)

    • Support requirements in planning, development, testing and assessment of equipment to meet mission requirements in support of the military unit

    • Apply technical expertise to provide sUAS Branch with recommendations for integration of current and future Line of Site (LOS) communications platforms in sUAS systems

    • Provide connectivity with communication platforms: Ku/X/Ka band satellite systems, UHF/VHF radio, data systems, IP networking, mobile ad-hoc networking, mesh networking systems, tactical SATCOM, LMR systems, phone systems, and COP applications Maintain secure and non-secure network operations on all levels to include routers, servers, and switches

    • Maintain tactical military and satellite communications equipment

    • Maintain commercial radio systems, to include Motorola LMR

    • Complete Core Reception and Integration training for the unit supported within 6 months of hire

    • Perform duties in all weather and climate conditions and be capable of carrying loads of up to 80 pounds over uneven terrain

    • Perform other duties as assigned

    Required Skills

    • Required Clearance: TS/SCI

    • Technical expertise with MPU5 radios and/or ATAK network integration

    • Technical expertise with L3 Harris AN/PRC-163 and AN/PRC-167 radios

    • Experience with sUAS integration and testing

    • Must have working knowledge of DISA DISN network services, architecture, configuration, certification processes and procedures, CISCO, LAN/WAN, fiber, POTS, NSA approved encryption devices, equipment suite programming, deployment, and integration

    • Demonstrated expertise in oral and written communications to explain communication IP/RF networks and requirements

    • Ability to work independently and as part of small teams

    • Ability to travel frequently to support field testing and training, including OCONUS for up to 30 days

    • Possess effective oral and written communication skills

    • Minimum of 4 years of experience coordinating with a training audience and developing realistic scenarios to facilitate training objectives

    • Must be able to travel on short notice and work non-standard hours

    • Bachelor's degree required plus an additional 3 years of experience OR Associates degree plus 7 years' experience OR no degree plus 9 years' experience

    Desired Experience

    • 5+ years of experience designing, developing, testing, and/or operating tactical communication and comms system architecture for Air, Ground, or Maritime systems ISO DoD agencies/Armed Forces or government agencies

    • Experience instructing/interacting with military audiences

    • Experience with military test and evaluation processes

    • Joint military experience
