    Systems engineers at MTS deliver world-class high performance electric power systems, test systems and motion simulators that drive product innovations in the areas of automotive, aerospace, civil infrastructure, energy extraction, biomedical and material science. Systems engineers accomplish this by leading a team of engineers providing cutting edge solutions in controls, electronics, machine design, hydraulic and electric actuation solutions while coordinating with project engineers and other supporting functions.

    As an in-house technical expert, the EPS Systems Engineer role will span all areas of engineering development in the Ground Road Vehicles (GRV) division owning the electric power systems, permanent magnet motors, electric actuation solutions, and complex custom engineering - first to world designs.

    The EPS Systems Engineer will create motor architectures for Motor Sports and other markets, as well as test machines across the MTS Enterprise. In addition, this role will be responsible for creating the next generation of electric actuation solutions for MTS products. On-need basis, the EPS Systems Engineer will also lead or be involved in complex custom-engineering projects.

    Partner with Product Managers, Application Engineers, Finance, and management to define the '80' Electric Power Systems and solutions within our markets.

    Collaborate with Application Engineers and Project Engineers on customer opportunities to ensure that concepts align with schedule, price-point, and performance targets. Help explain trade-offs to customers and act as proposal technical lead to develop specifications, functional requirements, acceptance criterion, and concept solutions which provide best value for upcoming opportunities.

    Partner with product management to proactively understand market trends and customer technical wants and needs for their respective markets.

    As technical leader, create and present technology roadmaps, identify technology gaps and provide guidance on ways to move forward to internal management.

    Document stakeholder and system requirements.

    Work with engineering team to allocate system requirements down to sub-system levels.

    Direct trade-off analyses and performance assessment to create system architectures that meet requirements.

    • Act as technical leader and provide technical direction to engineers on the project team by conducting design reviews to train other engineers on the working principles of the system as well as coordinating the technical decisions that need to be made at the sub-system level to meet system requirements.

    • Maintaining a technical risk registry to identify and mitigate issues that may impact the schedule, cost, or the performance of the product.

    • Determining and controlling the system interfaces to ensure that the intended operation of the system elements and the interoperation with other systems is achieved.

    • Guiding the team through validation process by checking that the individual system elements provide the function intended.

    Support the on-site installation of the system and transition to customer by enabling relevant systems, products, or services, such as operator training systems, as defined in the customer contract.

    As technical leader, provide guidance and mentoring to engineering staff across the organization, build and foster cross-functional communication among the engineering and project technical disciplines.

    Collaborate with the Project Engineers to make sure that the project goals are met with regards to schedule, cost, and performance of the product.

    Qualifications

    • BSME (Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering)

    • MSME (Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering)

    • 5+ years of work experience

    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

    • Knowledge of hydraulics, machine design, kinematics, controls and heat transfer

    • Experience with SolidWorks, ProE or similar CAD systems

    • Knowledge in Finite Element Analysis (FEA), vibration analysis and simulation tools (ANSYS, MATLAB, Simulink, MathCAD)

    Compensation Information:

    $120,000 to $175,000 annually. Pay depends on experience. Position is also eligible for bonus incentive plan.
