    We are looking for an energetic learner who is organized, detail oriented, and dedicated to sustainability monitoring, reporting, and improvement. As a Sustainability Intern, you will be part of the Sustainability team, working across global operations and supply chains to scale solutions. This role will support the implementation of MITRE's Sustainability Management Plan, with a primary focus on the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventory, reducing impacts from business travel, and website design. You will collect, analyze, and interpret data on energy consumption, waste management, GHG emissions, and procurement. This role will support the 2024 GHG inventory, identify methods for tracking business travel improvements, contribute to an incentive program for employees to reduce business travel or shift to lower impact modes, and assist in the design of a new website.

    Primary Tasks/Responsibilities

    • Data entry, review, and documentation management for GHG emissions inventory.

    • Supporting the accuracy, consistency, and verification of the GHG inventory by researching requirements, preparing necessary documentation, and performing data quality analysis.

    • Investigating options with our travel agency to track changing behaviors.

    • Researching successful campaigns to reduce environmental impacts of business travel.

    • Contributing to business travel incentive program for employees to reduce business travel or shift to lower impact modes.

    • Recommending improvements to MITRE's sustainability website and assisting with the design.

    Basic Qualifications

    • Enrolled full-time in a Bachelor's or higher degree program in Sustainability, Environmental Economics, Environmental Science, or related field.

    • Experience working in sustainability, research, and data analysis.

    • Familiarity or willingness to learn sustainability reporting requirements (e.g., CDP, GHG Protocol, ISSB, etc.).

    • Sustained excellence in academic performance.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Prior experience with website design.

    • Intellectually curious, "Can-do" attitude, pro-active, and resourceful.

    • Ability to work in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment, and possess a commitment to excellence.

    • Demonstrated interest in serving the public.
