    Supervisor, Telecom

    Job Summary

    The Supervisor, Telecom position for the Fiber to Distribution Fiber Optic group will have overall responsibility for approximately (8) Southern Company Services (SCS) Telecom Technicians and (2) Southern Company Services (SCS) Telecom Analysts. The Supervisor provides leadership and influence through active participation in Field Operations (FO) activities and leverages business, technical, and consulting resources from across the organization (strategy, engineering, and operations) to ensure the timely delivery of effective business solutions.

    Field Operations ensures infrastructure reliability in supporting key customer groups across critical core business operational functions by supporting infrastructure installation, configuration, troubleshooting, break/fix repair, performance optimization, and documentation activities.

    This position will be filled at an Exempt Level 7.

    Job Requirements:

    • Working knowledge of our customer's business functions, how their operations are performed within different organizations of Southern Company, how FO supports them, and an understanding of how TO adds value to these organizations.

    • Ability to understand technology issues, budgeting, and financial statement data needed to make sound business recommendations.

    • Proven leadership and teamwork demonstrated by a successful track record of accomplishing meaningful business results while working across the organization.

    • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and categorize key business requirements.

    • Demonstrated people skills that result in successful working relationships with internal and external customers, peers, and business partners.

    • Some travel is required.

    Education Requirements:

    • A two-year degree in a technology-related field or equivalent military and/or work experience is required.

    • A four-year degree is not required, but preference will be given to candidates with a four-year bachelor's degree or nearing completion in a four-year degree program in Business Administration, Computer Science, Engineering, or related fields.

    Experience Requirements:

    • A minimum of five years of experience in a TO-related field.

    • Working knowledge of TO-related disciplines, including Telecommunications Transport, Data, and Voice networks.

    • Working knowledge of internal business partner operations, including Distribution, Generation, Network Underground, Southern Linc, Southern Telecom, Substations, and Transmission.

    • Working knowledge of external business operations and joint venture partnerships, including AT&T, C-Spire, Comtran, Lumen, Point Broadband, Tombigbee, TVA, Uniti, Verizon, Windstream, and Zayo.

    • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of customer organizations and TO management.

    • Extensive technical knowledge and experience in developing, implementing, and managing Southern Company installation and maintenance standards.

    • Demonstrated Outside Plant Engineering (OSP) and change management creation and execution experience.

    Additional Responsibilities:

    • Establishes and maintains excellent working relationships/partnerships within TO and external customers, partners, suppliers, and vendors.

    • Responsible for developing and managing annual budgets for the area of responsibility, including monthly variance and projection reviews.

    • Assigns staff schedules and delivers on team commitments.

    • Performance management and review processes for direct reports.

    • Ensures resources are on hand and effectively utilized.

    • Ensures work assignments and workloads are balanced and billing requirements are met.

    • Works closely and effectively with all the TO organization members to meet business and TO strategies.

    • Depending on operational and leadership needs during unforeseen events, this position may require engagement outside of typical working hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

    • Relocation assistance is available for this position.

    • The successful candidate must live in or be willing to relocate to the state of Georgia.

    This position has been identified as a role that will require the use of a Georgia Power fleet vehicle. The following will be required if you are selected for this position:

    • Must have at least one year of verifiable driving experience (Must hold a valid driver's license for the class vehicle to be operated. Driving permits are not typically considered a valid driver's license).

    • Must have no revocation of driving privileges within the 36 months prior to application, no convictions of major traffic violations (DUI, hit and run, reckless driving, etc.) within the 12 months prior to application, or any pending charges for a major traffic violation at the time of application.
