    • Develop purchasing strategies.
    • Manage members of the purchasing and warehouse teams.
    • Negotiate prices and contracts with suppliers.
    • Builds and maintains relationships with vendors.
    • Selects prospective vendors and negotiates contracts.
    • Evaluates vendors based on quality, timeliness, and price.
    • Researches and evaluates vendors to compare pricing and services.
    • Manage the planning and implementation of activities related to the timely, planning, ordering, receipt, and inventory control of production materials.
    • Oversee the process to maintain correctly balanced inventory levels on all purchased material and supplies to prevent stock out conditions, while minimizing on hand inventory (Slow moving inventory worked into production plan, etc).
    • Ensure the accurate receipt of all incoming materials.
    • Ensure the efficient and organized storage of all warehoused materials
    • Manage and facilitate the enhancement of improved communication and smooth interface between departments and individuals regarding plans, programs, or problems.
    • Select, develop, and evaluate personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the materials management function.
    • Manage physical inventory and establish acceptable raw and WIP inventory levels and goals.
    • Monitor and publish monthly progress towards goals.
    • Travels to vendor locations.
    • Stays current with purchasing technology trends and oversees purchase and implementation, as necessary.

    • Maintain a clean and orderly work area.

    Requirements

    • Previous experience in materials management including purchasing and inventory.
    • Ability to communicate and implement process and procedure enhancements in a job shop manufacturing environment.
    • Must be able to influence and lead a team.
    • Experience in managing vendors and suppliers in quality, delivery, customer support.
    • A proven, effective negotiator, who understands the importance of short-term price concessions and long-term relationships with the suppliers.
    • Strong database background, comfortable with a variety of software systems, including spread sheets.
    • Experience with material planning systems to ensure the timely delivery of all needed materials.
    • Strong organizational, negotiation and communication skills.
    • Experience working in a job shop manufacturing environment producing custom products would be a plus.
    • Ability to read, understand and interpret structural and electrical drawings.
