    Job Description

The DMPK&M oncology modeling group develops mechanistic mathematical models of drug candidates and their effects on cancer using in vitro and animal data in order to translate preclinical findings into clinical projections of target patient population, biomarker modulation, and dose-response relationships. We partner closely with bench scientists and clinicians to provide high-quality decision support to early drug R&D

    Job Description:

Takeda Oncology Drug Discovery Unit (ODDU) screens immuno-oncology (IO) lead molecules (leads) by testing them in syngeneic mouse models. One DMPK&M role is to assess the data from these mouse models to rank-order these leads, to estimate dose-response relationship, and to help choose doses for future studies. Our mathematical modelers have various bespoke approaches to these predictions, and this process can be inconsistent and time-consuming.

This summer internship project seeks to address these issues by setting up a semi-automated user-friendly tumor assessment system that considers humane censoring and individual mouse tumor volume trajectories to produce a quick, consistent and unbiased estimate of the effect of Takeda discovery lead molecules on tumor growth dynamics.

    The intern will

    • Speed up and increase quality of determining the dose-response relationship for potency of drug candidates

    • Provide the accurate comparison among leads and to reference compound

    • Provide companywide practices to relieve ODDU and DMPK&M scientists from high-workload data manipulations and calculations.

    Internship Development Opportunities:

    • Exposure to PK/PD and tumor dynamic modeling in an industrial setting

    • Learn to understand different ways of working in the oncology modeling field

    • Experience with gathering requirements and 'customer' (ie Project Representative) management

    Job Requirements:

    • This position will be Hybrid and require 2-3 days in the Cambridge, MA office per week.

    • Must be a PhD candidate in Applied Mathematics, Biomedical/Chemical Engineering, or Pharmaceutics

    • Must have prior exposure to ODE modeling of biological processes, web-based application (e.g. R-shiny) development, and programmatic wrangling of sub-optimally formatted data sets.

    • Highly reliable and a strong team player

    • Flexible with an attention to detail

    • Strong verbal and written communication skills

    Internship Eligibility

    • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a permanent basis without requiring sponsorship

    • Must be currently enrolled in a degree program graduating December 2025 or later

    • The internship program is 10-12 weeks depending on the two start dates (June 2nd- August 29th) or (June 16th - August 22nd)

    • The intern must be able to commit to one of these time frames

    • Able to work full time 40 hours a week during internship dates

    • Takeda does not provide a housing stipend or relocation support for the U.S Summer Internship Program

    Program Highlights:

    • Hands-on experience with real projects and responsibilities

    • Dedicated mentorship program pairing interns with experienced professionals

    • Networking opportunities with industry professionals and fellow interns

    • Internship events focused on professional and skills development

    • Exposure to multiple business areas or departments within a Pharmaceutical Organization

Applications will be accepted between January 6th and January 31st
