What We Need YOU To Do: The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency wants you to be our newest intern in the Division of Surface Water (DSW) at one of our many locations throughout the State of Ohio.
Essentials. Let's talk about 'em: As a college intern, you'll receive training and orientation on all aspects of our surface water program and assist the technical staff with a variety of program duties. We have multiple positions to choose from:
Stormwater Intern- You will receive training in aspects of both in-office and in-the-field activities involved in the Stormwater Program.
- Review Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans for compliance with NPDES permits.
- Perform inspections of construction and industrial sites to determine compliance with NPDES regulations.
- Develop reports and letters based on plan reviews and site inspections.
- Assist agency staff in performing site evaluations in response to complaints received.
Permitting Intern- Collect and summarize data for wastewater treatment and wastewater collection permit to install (PTI) applications.
- Review PTI applications and detail plans.
- Collect and tabulate data required for NPDES draft permits and actions.
- Prepare reports, review plans, and tabulate information as requested.
- Assist with inspections of wastewater treatment plants.
Standards Intern- Researching and summarizing published literature on chemical water quality criteria and standards adopted by other States.
- Updating GIS data bases to include new water quality standard use designations and other projects.
- Verifying stream names listed in water quality standard use designation rules.
- Organizing water quality data.
- Water quality database entry.

Qualifications- Must be currently enrolled in a college degree program directly related to the position or have recently graduated within the quarter/semester immediately preceding the start date.
- Major area of study: Environmental Science, Water Resources, Chemistry or Engineering (Environmental, Civil, Chemical) or relevant field of study.
- Knowledge of safety practices, public relations, Agency policies and procedures and permits as applicable.
- Skills in computers (word processing and database work)
