    Who will you be working with?

    This position provides a unique opportunity to interact with team members across the engineering organization, developing our next generation drivetrain technologies and integrating those technologies onto various vintages of locomotives. This position will integrate closely with our Systems teams and our Controls/Software teams on multiple platforms from our next generation architecture to our proven systems that have had decades of service life. This role comes with the overall objective of improving design and requirements quality, increasing engineering productivity, all while addressing the latest customer needs.

    How will you make a difference?

    The Sub-Systems Engineering Manager is responsible for development and fulfillment of locomotive core drivetrain and auxiliary power integration sub-system design. The manager will drive new technology development, processes, plans, procedures, workflows, tools, and best practices for the Traction and Auxiliary team. This role is integral to the engineering of new product/technology development programs, working closely with design teams on new product updates, and customer project fulfillment commitments.

    What do we want to know about you?

    • Bachelor's in Electrical, Computer, Mechanical Engineering with eight (8) plus years' of relevant experience in product development, NPI, and project management in industrial sector. OR

    • Masters in Electrical, Computer or Mechanical Engineering with five (5) plus years' relevant experience in product development, NPI, and project management in industrial sector.

    • Demonstrated ability to meet or exceed goals and objectives in a matrix organization.

    • Proven strong interpersonal, communication, influencing, analytical, and leadership skills.

    • Pro-active, organized, motivated, and results-oriented team player, with strong sense of ownership, accountability, and sense of urgency.

    • Ability and willingness to travel as required (including international).

    • Demonstrated technical expertise in leading the integration of control system with component hardware (propulsion batteries, DC/AC inverters, AC/AC convertors, motors, alternators, rectifiers) and/or other sub-systems (propulsion battery, diesel engine, engine cooling, engine control, compressed air, ventilation) to meet performance, application, and platform functional requirements.

    What will your typical day look like?

    • Work as part of the Engineering team to develop, implement, & validate electric drivetrains on locomotives. These locomotive propulsion systems will include control of electrical power input from an alternator, catenary, batteries, or other sources that feed traction and auxiliary inverters used to drive propulsion motors and auxiliary loads.

    • Support business planning with project plans, resource requirements, and cost projections.

    • Represent engineering group within a team that includes commercial, supply chain, quality, engineering, testing, and customer.

    • Ensure timely completion of project milestones, design reviews, design, and customer documentation.

    • Communicate project progress, successes, proactive risks, remediations applied and proposed to internal stakeholders and external customers.

    You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.
