This position supports the Victim Services team within the Victim Services and Restorative Justice Unit. The position is primarily responsible for responding to submitted Intake form requests through the Minnesota Haven notification system. This position provides support, advocacy services, and referrals to those who are crime victims of people under the jurisdiction of the MN Department of Corrections and to those who are victimized while incarcerated. The work includes notification to crime victims about changes in custodial status, safety planning, coordination of work with government and community-based advocacy services, and data tracking. Much of the work focuses on victim/survivors and family members of homicide, sexual assault, and domestic violence criminal convictions.
This position is anticipated to last up to one (1) year and may work up to 20 hours per week. The specific hours and days of work will be determined at the time of appointment based on business need and applicant availability.

Minimum Qualifications
To be eligible for appointment as a Student Worker you must be a student enrolled in an educational program or planning to enroll within three months. Students may be "off" for the summer or for one semester/quarter and remain employed as student workers, but such absences cannot exceed one semester/quarter in a year. As a student, you must be enrolled in high school or in a post-secondary or graduate program. If a student is enrolled at a credit granting institution, he/she must carry at least six semester (nine quarter) credits. If enrolled at a non-credit granting institution or one that only offers one credit per class, a student must be taking two or more classes per semester/quarter. Any lesser credit (class) load shall be treated as a semester/quarter off. Graduate students must be enrolled in at least two courses or making progress on a dissertation. You will be asked to complete an Educational Verification form prior to appointment.

Current enrollment in a post-secondary or graduate study program. * Please ensure that your application/resume clearly indicates the college where you are currently enrolled, as well as your anticipated graduation date.
Experience and skills in using standard computer software programs for word processing, spreadsheets, and databases sufficient to create, modify, and protect information/documents.
Ability to use customer service skills on the phone, in person, and online to provide effective general and specialized office support with common courtesy, tact, interest in positive problem solving, empathy, and the ability to organize ideas logically.
Skills in business English sufficient to write, edit and file documents using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation.
Experience working with diverse populations
Knowledge of domestic and sexual violence philosophies and trauma informed practices

Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of and/or experience working with government-based and community-based victim service/advocacy organizations.
Physical Requirements

Additional Requirements
The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections' policy. Top candidate(s) must pass a criminal history check which includes successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements of law enforcement jurisdictions, including probation. Employment history/reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will also be conducted on the top candidate(s) in accordance with Department of Corrections' policy. This may include a review of job performance and discipline records. New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment.
