    Job Summary : The Student Echocardiograph Technician professionally performs a wide variety of routine and complex Echo procedures under the indirect supervision of an experienced or lead Echo Technologist. Less experienced Student Echo Techs will receive training in the administration of more advanced procedures. The Student Echo Tech is expected to perform m-modes, 2-D echocardiograms, color flow doppler, pulse wave doppler, continuous wave doppler, pedoff doppler, transesophageal echocardiograms, stress echocardiograms and any other procedures performed in the department. Must have good communication skills and technical knowledge. Student adheres to and carries out the policies, procedures, standards, and objectives of Roper St. Francis Healthcare and the Echocardiography Laboratory.

    Minimum Qualifications :

    Education and Experience: Currently enrolled in an Allied Health field and in process of completing clinical rotations in ultrasound technology.

    Licensure/Certification: Current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider Card required. Registered in the field of Cardiac Ultrasound either through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) with the credential of Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS), or through the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) with the credential of Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) upon completion of Allied Health program and required clinical hours is preferred.

    Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of cardiac ultrasound theories, practices and procedures to provide quality care and exams for patients. Must show demonstrated ability to perform and preliminarily interpret all cardiac ultrasound modalities performed in the department. Must demonstrate accuracy in recording technical information, history and test results. Skilled in maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and co-workers. The ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Skilled in preparing and maintaining records accurately. Ability to verbally communicate well. Ability to handle multiple tasks with frequent interruptions.

    Other: Employees working at St. Francis Hospital may be responsible for performing the following additional procedures: Electrocardiograms (EKGs/ECGs), Cardiac Stress Tests, Holter Monitors, Holter Scanning and Event Monitors. Employees working at other facilities may be responsible for performing other modalities as well. Some of these modalities include but are not limited to vascular ultrasound and abdominal ultrasound.
