    Responsibilities

    This position is responsible for assisting and collaborating in the functioning of the certified stroke center state wide components, which includes, but not limited to, CHI Health Hospitals and Administrative Support, Neuroscience Institute, Acute Stroke Team, Written Care Protocols, Emergency Medicine Services, Emergency Department, Stroke Units, Neurological Services, Neuroimaging, Laboratory Services, Outcome/Quality Improvement, and Educational Programs.

    The Stroke Program Coordinator serves as the clinical expert serving as a role model, educator, and resource person to facilitate safe passage for patients with CVA/TIA's. This position will ensure professional development of clinical staff and improve community awareness regarding stroke. In collaboration with the System Stroke Committee will provide leadership and facilitation to promote improved CVA/TIA patient outcomes statewide.

    Responsibilities include

    • Coordinate and maintain the certification of the certified stroke center under the leadership of Administration and the campus Stroke Medical Director. Once achieved follow appropriate guidelines/recommendations to maintain certification.

    • Further development/advancement of certification level as determined appropriate by Neuroscience Service Line leadership.

    • Identify and follow patients with stroke during hospitalization for the purpose of applying evidence-based practice to improve patient outcomes, both physiological and financial.

    • Mentor staff in using/fostering the use of evidence-based tools to improve the case of a stroke patient (stroke order sets, nursing care resource guide, patient educational tools). Facilitate neurological assessment skills for caregivers across the spectrum of stroke care. Maintain hospital-wide/system-wide communication regarding Stroke Program.

    • Develop and facilitate ongoing community and professional education programs. Assist with inpatient stroke education.

    • Participate actively in the continued development of improved care practices for patients, including practice guidelines and protocols through the use of evidence-based practice.

    • Demonstrate motivation for continued growth as an educator, and by active review of current literature, professional networking, and attendance at relevant seminars/conferences. Communicate educational offerings to Stroke Team and keep track of the team's stroke educational hours.

    • Consults with OT/PT/Dieticians/Case Management/Social Work and other members of the health care team, to continue to identify new strategies for excellence.

    • Review stroke related data, disseminate with appropriate team members, and establish performance improvement plan to make changes.

    • Promote CHI Health certified stroke center in collaboration of the Marketing Department by means of appropriate printed patient education materials, videos, billboards, etc.

    • Attend regular meetings as a system and at each campus to help facilitate, mandate protocol and develop a standardization across the system.

    Qualifications

    Required Education and Experience

    • Associate's Degree required.

    • Washinton State Registered Nurse (RN) License required.

    • Minimum 5 years nursing experience.

    • Clinical experience with stroke patients.

    • Experience in teaching and/or clinical program development desirable.

    • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams.

    • Ability to be self-directed, assertive and creative in problem solving.

    Preferred

    • Bachelor's Degree

    • Stroke Certified Registered Nurse (SCRN)

    • Experience with data collection and statistical analysis.

    Pay Range

    $46.96 - $68.10 /hour
