Responsibilities
An Ergonomist is deeply embedded into supported departments, often being viewed as a member of the department's leadership team to assist with regulatory compliance/best practice, injury reduction, and workforce productivity. An Ergonomist creates, deploys and provides decision support for safety policies, procedures; leads accreditation related items (e.g., AAALAC, TJC, CAP, CARF); provides input into the design of new facilities and equipment; reviews and assists with improvement opportunities.
Majority of time is spent as an ergonomic consultant and resource facilitating ergonomic program development and activities in a customer focused environment. Is responsible for actively participating in and performing the different functions of the Mayo Ergonomics program. Conducts administrative duties as appointed, including budget and resource allocation and supervision of staff involved in safety-related projects. Partners with customers to develop and implement new ergonomic programs, continuous improvement projects, procedural protocols and/or educational programs. Performs in-depth ergonomic musculoskeletal data analysis and interpretation to support decision making and program planning.
Evaluates established procedures and programs for effectiveness. In conjunction with customers, conducts basic and advanced ergonomic assessments, assists in identifying workplace ergonomic hazards, provides suggested control measures to reduce/eliminate the hazards and develops ergonomic training materials. Maintains high level of technical expertise and knowledge in the field of Ergonomics and Human Factors especially as applied in a medical environment. Contributes to scientific discussions at sectional, institutional, state and national levels representing Mayo's position on ergonomics-related issues. Supports committees, task forces, work groups, and other activities at the institutional, departmental, section, and/or work unit level, as required. Must maintain strict confidentiality of information.

Qualifications
Requires Masters degree in Ergonomics/Human Factors Engineering or a related field. Requires two years of hands-on experience in the field of Ergonomics/Human Factors. Must fulfill the technical knowledge requirements as prescribed by the Board of Certification in Professional Ergonomics for the Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE). Must have significant technical knowledge, - ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing, and the ability to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team. Must have established presentation and teaching skills. Must have expertise in working with MS Office software packages.Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE) required within two years of hire.
Prior experience working w/in a Safety Management System framework

Compensation Detail
$103,500.80- $155,334.40/ year; Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
