    Applications received in response to this announcement will be used to fill Substitute Teacher vacancies at the MN State Academy for the Deaf (MSAD) for the 2024-2025 school year.

    Substitutes are called in on an as needed basis to fill behind absent staff.

    Applicants submitting applications to this announcement will be in an applicant pool considered throughout the school year for substitute teacher positions as they become available.

    These positions function as substitute teachers in the classroom teaching deaf/hard of hearing students.

    Under general supervision, contributes to the design and delivery of academic instructional programs to deaf/hard of hearing or deaf/blind students. Provides educational instruction and uses a variety of techniques to encourage appropriate behaviors.

    Positions at MN State Academy for the Deaf require American Sign Language (ASL) skills. Candidates will be assessed for signing skills prior to hire

    Minimum Qualifications

    Current Minnesota teaching license-Short Call Substitute License

    Knowledge of the deaf/hard of hearing and deaf/blind students and educational practices

    Skill in writing basic reports, using arithmetic, and reading and interpreting charts and graphs

    Fluency in American Sign Language

    Ability to read and write English sufficient to understand written policies and procedures and education plans and to maintain records and documentation

    Human relations skills sufficient to establish rapport with and provide instruction to students

    Ability to perform emergency procedures and personal safety techniques

    Preferred Qualifications

    ·Experience working with deaf/hard of hearing students

    ·Knowledge of the data practices as it relates to work in the social/human services field

    ·Demonstration of advanced sign skills

    Physical Requirements

    Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (with assistance) and be able to sit, stand and walk throughout the workday
