The PASS program at Merrimack High School is designed to provide team support to students with identified social/emotional challenges that can present barriers to their access to the regular education classroom as the least restrictive educational environment at the high school. Students in this program receive one period a day of specialized instruction to develop individualized coping strategies for high school and to learn to regulate their emotional responses to challenges and stressful events. Students may also access PASS in times of crisis.
The teacher must:
- work collaboratively with other PASS team members
- work closely with administration, the counseling office, and outside service agencies
- work actively to engage students in the educational learning process and towards their academic goals.
- teach alternative coping strategies to students who self-sabotage to avoid or escape challenging situations
- Continually engage parents so that there is a consistency of approach between home and school environments.
- Work on problem-solving skills with students to develop their resilience
- Monitor student progress academically and facilitate positive relationships between students and their regular education teachers
Qualifications:- Current NH certification in Special Education
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with students, parents, and classroom teachers
- Team-centered work style
- A range of knowledge in high school content area subjects
Hours per day: 7.5
Days per week: 5
Days per year: 187
