Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center is an 881-bed quaternary care academic medical center that is a joint venture between Baylor College of Medicine and CHI St. Luke's Health. Located in the Texas Medical Center, the hospital is the home of the Texas Heart® Institute, a cardiovascular research and education institution founded in 1962 by Denton A. Cooley, MD. Responsibilities
Position Responsibilities
Performs ultrasound exams on patients according to the specific departmental procedure protocols under the direction of the Medical Director
Prepares equipment ensuring that it is operational, safe and functioning according to diagnostic standards
Problem-solves equipment failure and imaging quality and contacts service representative or CES regarding equipment problems
Ensures that daily equipment and room maintenance are performed before/during/ after each procedure, and that special precautions and measures are performed to ensure infection control standards
Completes all quality checks and Ensures that equipment logs are maintained
Completes all clinical supply inventories, ensuring that each diagnostic room is complete with the necessary supplies required to perform the procedure
Demonstrates competency in PACS process and Performs the daily QA process
Actively Participates with patient testing, performing routine, non-routine, urgent, and emergent patient exams.
Communicates with Patient Transportation, Nursing Units, Physician Offices, and other diagnostic areas to ensure that the patients receive their diagnostic procedures in a smooth, efficient and safe manner
Performs portable examinations (when applicable) at the bedside to ensure patient safety as well as provide immediate diagnostic testing when needed
Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images
Uses independent judgment during the sonographic exam to Accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings
Analyses sonograms, synthesizes sonographic information with medical history, and communicates findings to the appropriate physician
Assumes responsibility for the safety, emotional and physical comfort of patients while they are in the sonographers care
Assists with the daily operations of the ultrasound suite
Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations
Maintains a daily log of patient's seen/ completes exam-billing forms
Maintains ultrasound equipment and work area, and Maintains adequate supplies
Participates in the maintenance of the ultrasound accreditation
Qualifications
Education and Licensure:
Associate's Degree preferred
Active certification by American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or ARRT;
BLS certification
Experience:
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Good alpha/numeric dexterity and handwriting skills
Interpersonal skills for communication with patients, visitors, physicians and other hospital personnel.
Must have good written and oral communication skills
Pay Range
$33.60 - $48.73 /hour
