    MITRE's National Security Accelerator Program (~~~) is seeking highly motivated, late-early and early-mid career candidates passionate about solving problems for a safer world. This program will provide unique work opportunities, onboarding, and mentoring to build your skills as a future leader. You will accelerate your career while preparing for impactful, rewarding work at MITRE. Successful candidates will gain exposure and experience in topics of common interest to the entire national security community.     You will interact with a diverse group of program peers, MITRE national security leaders, and staff solving real-world problems. Over the course of this structured six-month program, you will hone your skills and develop strong professional networks in the national security sector and across our Innovation Centers, helping solve critical national challenges. Before transitioning to MITRE's permanent national security staff, you will benefit from the following program pillars:

    Roles & Responsibilities:

    As a key member of MITRE's Software Engineering team, you will collaborate closely with mission specialists, engineers, and government stakeholders to tackle the intricate challenges of software engineering critical to national security. You will gain deep insights into sponsor missions and leverage your technical expertise to drive innovation and problem-solving. At the culmination of the program, you will become an integral part of MITRE's National Security sector, equipped with a strong foundation in these domains, poised to lead future endeavors within the company.

    From designing robust software systems to ensuring the seamless integration of cutting-edge technologies, you will leverage your engineering prowess, critical thinking, and collaborative skills to address a diverse array of challenges essential to mission success. Your responsibilities will encompass:

    • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and deploy software applications and systems.

    • Participating in the entire software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, implementation, testing, and maintenance.

    • Utilizing your expertise in Python, Java, C#, and other relevant programming languages to develop efficient and scalable software solutions.

    • Ensuring software quality through code reviews, testing, and debugging.

    • Staying up-to-date with the latest software engineering trends and technologies, and applying them to enhance product performance and functionality.

    • Assisting in the design and implementation of microservices.

    • Contributing to network design, analysis, and cyber security efforts.

    • Conducting and contributing to software technology gap analysis.

    • Evaluating technical implementations and proposing improvements/alternatives for software capabilities.

    • Designing and engineering prototypes to improve sponsor capabilities in software development and implementation.

    • Advising sponsors on technical solutions and capabilities for software automation.

    • Identifying and proposing solutions to technical, procedural, and governance challenges related to software engineering.

    • Authoring standards and procedures for the consistent, secure implementation of technical solutions.

    • Developing software using Agile processes and tools (JIRA, git, Jenkins/gradle, and more).

    • Delivering software designs and prototypes.

    • Evaluating technologies and commercial products for potential military applicability.

    • Researching emerging technology.

    • Developing actionable recommendations and strategies for the modernization of existing software capabilities.

    • Translating mission drivers and priorities to software requirements.

    • Interfacing with sponsors and other stakeholders.

    Basic Qualifications

    • Typically, a Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline and a minimum of 5 years of related experience, or a Master's degree with 3 years of experience, or a PhD with relevant experience.

    • Solid understanding of software engineering principles and practices.

    • Demonstrated proficiency in technical areas relevant to the specific role, such as Agile software development, software architecture, and microservices.

    • Knowledge of tools and methodologies commonly used in software engineering, including JIRA, Git, Jenkins/Gradle, Docker, and Kubernetes.

    • Experience with a variety of programming languages and frameworks, such as Python, Java, C#, JavaScript, and related technologies.

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.

    • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

    • Flexibility to work on-site as required by the position.

    • Active Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI

    • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree with 8 years of experience in software engineering principles, tools, and methodologies, with a focus on defense or national security applications, or Master's degree with 6 years of experience.

    • Proven track record of working on projects related to defense, homeland security, or aerospace for one or more government agencies.

    • Demonstrated interdisciplinary background, showcasing continual learning and adaptation to new technologies and concepts.

    • Experience engaging with multiple levels of government and military leadership.

    • Active DOD Top Secret clearance with SCI

    • Advanced expertise in software engineering, including but not limited to:

    • Advanced software architecture design and analysis.

    • In-depth understanding and application of Agile methodologies and software development best practices.

    • Proficiency in microservices architecture and containerization technologies.

    • Experience in integrating and optimizing software systems and services.

    • Familiarity with software engineering standards and frameworks.

    • Familiarity with Department of Defense (DoD) software development and acquisition processes.

    • Knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in software engineering, including cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and machine learning applications.

    • Advanced proficiency in relevant programming languages such as Python, Java, C#, JavaScript, and related technologies.

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to apply software engineering principles to complex challenges.

    • Experience collaborating with external partners and industry experts on software engineering research and development initiatives.
