We are looking for a Shake & Shingle Inspector and Millwright Technician to support the Inspection Department at our Burnaby, BC location. The shake & shingle inspection portion is expected to take 1.5-2 days per week and the other 3-3.5 days per week would be spent in the Burnaby lab assisting with building and maintaining test equipment.

The ideal candidate for this position would be someone who is very motivated, assertive and would have worked as a millwright (or similar role) in a shake & shingle mill (or similar environment) where they have an understanding of lumber grading rules. DUTIES:

Shake & Shingle Inspector:

1. Perform grading inspection of cedar shakes and shingles at the mill.

2. Complete inspection reports and follow up on corrective actions.

3. Coordinate inspection activities with clientele.

4. Become knowledgeable of all shake and shingle grading rules and the relevant standards.

5. Comply with internal quality and HR policies.

Millwright Technician:

1. Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on test equipment to ensure optimal and continual performance.

2. Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair test equipment.

3. Fabricate and weld parts as needed for repairs or modifications.

4. Read and interpret standards, technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.

5. Collaborate with other stakeholders to design and build test equipment, analyze equipment malfunctions, and develop effective solutions.

6. General building maintenance and repair

7. Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean work environment.

QUALIFICATION:

1. Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Millwright or in a similar industrial maintenance role

2. Has a technical diploma or combination of education and experience

3. Proficient in using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments.

4. Experience working with low-voltage systems and electrical components.

5. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, schematics, and standards.

6. Skilled in welding and fabrication techniques

7. Experience designing and building mechanical control equipment.

8. Knowledge of instrumentation and data recording is an asset.

9. Be able to work with limited supervision.

10. Must be familiar with Microsoft Office software and have good written and oral communication skills.

11. Safe working practice with tools

12. Ability to grasp general concepts in a field of testing and apply it to specific test methods.

13. Ability to accept instruction and follow directions

14. Ability to multi-task multiple test programs with some degree of efficiency and accuracy.

15. Detail oriented

16. Ability to lift at least 50 pounds

17. Have a valid driver’s license and able to travel

18. Maintains a sense of ownership and responsibility for projects assigned to them.

19. Ability to work independently and within a team

20. Must be a team player and have a great attitude toward their job which is to be demonstrated by taking pride in their work, working respectfully with others, self-motivated and a willingness to learn new areas of testing.

Preferred:

1. Experience working at an ISO 17025 accredited testing laboratory

2. Experience working in the testing, inspection and certification industry

3. Knowledge of common test methods relating to assigned products

4. Experience working in diverse teams

5. Flexibility in work schedule and working overtime, if needed

Key Technical Competence:

• Demonstrates sound professional judgement in the applicable field of inspection.

• Conducts inspections in a safe manner adhering to good safety practices and all applicable safety rules and guidelines.

• Maintains a high level of expertise and knowledge in the area of electrical equipment evaluations.

• Knowledgeable of the applicable standards and codes for the related products and able to apply this knowledge in specific situations and to specific products.

• Accepts instruction and follows it for testing outside of their general scope of knowledge and experience.

• Able to grasp general concepts in a field of testing and apply it to specific test methods.

• Able to perform simple testing and as knowledge grows in a specific field of testing graduates to more complex testing methods.

• Seeks assistance and knowledge from more senior personnel when a specific requirement is outside of their general scope of knowledge.

• Good working knowledge of the test methods in their specific discipline.

• Able to multi-task with some degree of efficiency and accuracy.

• Maintains a sense of ownership and responsibility for projects assigned to them.
