  • Rincon Consultants, Inc. is seeking a Senior-Level Watershed Scientist/Engineer/Hydrogeologist to support our growing team. This role involves working closely with Principal, Director, and Senior leadership to manage environmental compliance projects for key clients across California. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in task management, project execution, and business development, with the ability to lead compliance efforts confidently.

    A successful candidate will possess exceptional knowledge and technical skills related to water resources, including stormwater, surface water, and groundwater water quality resources; compliance monitoring and reporting and special study programs; surface water and/or groundwater modeling; environmental permitting and NPDES compliance; integrated water resources management; and sustainable groundwater management. Projects will be focused on the water resources sector, including potable water, wastewater, recycled water, desalinated water, groundwater, and stormwater projects as well as water supply and water rights projects. Clients will primarily consist of water/wastewater agencies and districts, public works departments, and engineering firms.

    While this role may offer flexible work arrangements that can include a mix of in-office and remote work, our changing business needs will ultimately determine our level of remote work flexibility. Additionally, to promote in-person collaboration and client teaming, we prioritize hiring those who reside within 50 miles of a Rincon office which currently includes: Carlsbad, Fresno, Los Angeles, Monterey, Oakland, Palm Springs, Riverside, Sacramento, San Luis Obispo, San Diego, San Jose, Santa Barbara, and Ventura.

    This Job Might Be for You If You Have the Following:

    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Hydrology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Geology, or another related field

    • At least 12 years of direct, relevant work experience

    • Exceptional knowledge of hydrologic, water quality, and ecological processes in watersheds and water bodies, including pollutant sources and their impacts on water quality and human health effects and risk assessment

    • Demonstrated experience in Southern California watershed planning programs, with a command of TMDL and similar water quality studies implementation

    • Experience in southern California's watersheds and associated water quality challenges, including Phase I and Phase II MS4 Permits and other regional programs

    • Experience with technical approaches for evaluating and planning for water resource management programs (e.g., stormwater, surface water, groundwater, water supply)

    • Experience with or understanding of watershed and/or groundwater modeling software (e.g., HEC-HMS, SWAT, MODFLOW)

    • Demonstrated ability to formulate and solve highly technical problems related to water quality, with strong organizational and time management skills

    • Demonstrated experience tracking, pursuing, and winning new opportunities with new or existing clients

    • Exceptional technical writing, interpersonal, and communication skills

    • Use of statistical programs and techniques to support data analyses

    • Strong skills and proficiency in ArcGIS and using remote data

    • Proficient with Microsoft Office: Excel, Access, Word and Outlook, in particular

    Preferred:

    • Advanced degree in hydrogeology, geology, or natural resources science, with emphasis on water resources or closely related discipline

    • California PE/PG or EIT/GIT license

    • Current OSHA 40 Hour HAZWOPER

    • QSD/P or QISP certification

    The base salary range for this full-time position is $110,000-$150,000, plus benefits and a generous bonus program. At Rincon, our salary ranges are based on market median of similar jobs, according to third party salary benchmark surveys. The base pay that is actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
