WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Technical Writer for our Washington DC office. Be involved in projects with our Transit and Rail Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges.
This is a client facing role with the goal of establishing a formal quality management program and team for a transportation client to ensure improved infrastructure lifecycle management across capital and maintenance programs by establishing clear quality criteria, procedures, document control, training, audits, and compliance verification. Quality Criteria are to be established using the appropriate governing standards (e.g., ISO 9000, FTA, and WMATA QMSP standards). These activities will improve safety, reliability, minimize rework and associated contract change orders, and implement process improvements over time. In turn, that will lead to improved stewardship of infrastructure lifecycle management practices across the departments.
Your Impact
Examine the organization's business processes and offer solutions that create efficiencies and lead to measurable, long-lasting adjustments and quantifiable business results.
Work closely with the Documentation Control team to perform business process consulting to the department's mission and support elements.
Analyze and identify key processes for successful operations within the organization and key systems used.
Understand key success factors of customer business support processes, and integrate them with respect to unit requirements, operational requirements, products, services and processes.
Design and recommend as part of a team, new or revised internal business processes, using existing solutions/systems or consulting on technology tools needed to operate the change.
Partner with subject matter experts to identify and define business process improvements and provide methods to achieve improvements.
Provide an analysis of the documented actions using commercial best practices in the areas of software, hardware, and lean process improvements.
Provide potential Courses of Action (COAs) for enhancements to the baseline that has been established by the business process owners.
Provide technical solution support for the implementation of approved COA's.
Document COAs including flowcharts, data models, organization requirements tables, and risk assessment methodologies.
Employ lean practices including the development of process maps and documentation of recommended lean practices as a result of analysis and sustainment recommendations.
Regularly monitor the implementation of solutions to achieve objectives and expected benefits.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in business administration, finance, industrial engineering, information technology, legal, or a related field.
5 + years of related experience.
Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire team members to achieve business objectives.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders at all levels.
Attention to detail, with the ability to identify and resolve issues quickly and effectively.
Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to think creatively and develop innovative solutions.
Experience in process mapping.
Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Required Technical Skills: Proficiency with MS Office Suite; proficiency with process modeling tools such as Visio or ARIS; proficiency with collaboration tools such as MS SharePoint, One Note, JIRA.
Required Skills and Abilities: Ability to work across functional areas to drive continuous improvement; excellent written and verbal skills; demonstrated ability to work in high paced and changing environments; problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience preparing technical documents, for infrastructure planning and/or transportation engineering projects and/or FTA-Compliant quality documentation.
Experience organizing technical information to document standards, rules, SOPs, and handbooks.
Preferred Skills: Certified Six Sigma Green Belt; Continuous Improvement Manager certification.
Location: On Customer Site in either Alexandria, VA or New Carrolton, MD.

Expected Salary (all locations): $83,200.00- $145,530.00
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
