    About you and this role

    Dowhas an exciting opportunity for a Gas Phase PolyethyleneSenior Process Automation Techniciansupporting the new LP8 plant in Dow's Alberta Operation's as part of the Path2Zero Project. This role is located inFort Saskatchewan (AB, CAN).

    This individual would be the first point of contact for operations personnel seeking assistance with the plant control system (DCS) and process information system (MES). The PAT uses process control knowledge to maintain and improve the plant code, operation interface, hardware and information systems. They will do this by working with Support & Sustain (S&S), the MES Team, and the plant process control engineer to troubleshoot problems and implement improvements. The PAT seeks to identify deficiencies and improvement opportunities in the plant control and information systems.

    Responsibilities

    • Support LP8 project development and commissioning activities through RTO of the project.

    • Participate in LP8 commissioning planning and execution at direction of CSU Leader, especially focused around the plant's instrumentation and automation systems.

    • Work to develop plant's procedures and policies to protect and utilize the plant's process control and process information systems.

    • Participate in reviews of facility process control code and development of Process Control Strategy Descriptions (PCSDs).

    • Develop process control code and operator interface graphics to meet design criteria defined in PCSD layers 2 -3, utilizing the process control discipline section, SPP/GPM work processes and approved process control tools.

    • Support day-to-day Process Automation activities at the plant such as making programing changes to improve asset performance, assist in troubleshooting control system issues, adding simple capabilities, etc.

    • Provide turnaround (TA) and unplanned event (UPE) support.

    • Ensure reliable, optimized plant operation by successfully managing and implementing Process Control related changes utilizing Process Control Work Process Discipline, Small Project Process (SPP), approved functional tools and Global Management of Change (MOC) process.

    • Use troubleshooting techniques to identify cause of problems with process control code (including BPCS and SIS), operator interface or hardware and resolve these problems with stakeholder input.

    • Subject Matter Expert (SME) of Process Control system and of efforts to reduce the frequency and severity of unplanned events (UPEs).

    • Drive reduction of nuisance alarms, active alarms and IO-in-manual.

    • Use process control and plant performance indicators to monitor the process control system and plant operation.

    • Develop new plant performance indicators as needed.

    • Train and coach operations on process control system changes.

    • Assist in training of operations personnel on matters related to process control and process information systems and process control code.

    • Monitor and manage plant information systems including running weekly check of the DCS and IP.21 systems. Use the ABB data mine tool to check the top alarms, active alarms and IO in manual each week.

    • Coordinate with S&S to perform system updates to process control software and hardware.

    • Coordinate with TES to perform needed updates to the MES hardware and software.

    Required Qualifications

    • A minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent is required.

    • A minimum of 5 years relevant experience is required.

    • Must be willing to work flexible hours to accommodate meetings with team members in different locations / time zones.

    • Must be willing and able to meet physical demands of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations.

    • Must be willing and able to meet all applicable requirements related to business travel (e.g., as to immigration and visa rules, public-health mandates, airline rules, etc.) into and out of (and physical presence in) various countries worldwide.

    • A minimum requirement for this position is the ability to work legally in Canada. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including any type of permanent residency support.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • 5 years or more in a Dow Polyethylene unit.

    • Polyethylene plant turnaround experience.

    • Polyethylene plant start-up / shutdown experience.

    • Prior experience in Dow Gas Phase Polyethylene manufacturing.

    • Certifications as Panel/Board operator in Operations.

    • Strong demonstrated technical, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.

    • Experience with ABB Control Systems.

    • Experience with IP.21 platform.

    • Experience work in with OPD and the MOC tool.

    • Familiarization with LOPA and Safety Instrumented Systems.
