  • What You Will Do

    Reporting to the EPC-ES Analysis, Prevention, and Reduction Team Leader, the Senior Nondestructive Assay (NDA) Professional is responsible for developing, recommending, implementing and maintaining NDA measurement programs and systems, including method selection and instrument performance specification. This position is an opportunity for a motivated, innovative, and customer focused professional to support the EPC-ES Group.

    Job Duties

    The Senior NDA Professional provides daily technical oversight over the entire EPC-ES NDA program; provides expert technical data review and provides consultation and collaboration on NDA matters to various organizations such as nuclear safety, safeguards, nuclear materials control and accountability, health physics, waste characterization and waste shipping operations. The Senior NDA Professional will contribute to the development of new theories and methods and will collaborate with others in developing solutions to complex radioactive waste characterization problems that require in-depth analysis of work activities and data. The Senior NDA Professional will also promote safety, security, and quality in all operations; promote teamwork within the organization and across the Laboratory; promote a positive work environment; and deliver exceptional customer service.

    What You Need

    Minimum Job Requirements:

    • Expert-level knowledge in NDA techniques and technical data review as demonstrated through such things as publications, active participation in national NDA conferences, or conducting NDA training courses.

    • Expert-level knowledge and experience designing and implementing NDA measurement programs, including method selection and instrument performance specification.

    • Expert-level knowledge and ability to provide consultation on NDA matters to various organizations such as nuclear safety, safeguards, nuclear materials control and accountability, waste characterization, waste disposal and production operations.

    • Demonstrated excellent leadership skills, including the ability to provide NDA technical oversight and mentorship to technical NDA staff and operators.

    • Expert-level knowledge and ability to perform troubleshooting, repairs, calibrations, qualifications and certifications for instruments, software, methods.

    • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively within a team environment and provide excellent customer service.

    Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 12 years of experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, post-graduate coursework is expected.

    Desired Qualifications:

    • Broad knowledge of Laboratory organizations, operations, and activities.

    • Experience using High-purity Germanium (HPGe) detectors

    • Possess a mixture of theory, experience, and professional judgement

    • Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in the Physical Sciences or Engineering

    • Broad knowledge of Information Technology and electronics for upkeep and software/hardware upgrades.

    • Completion of a nondestructive assay measurement and analysis training program.

    Work Location: The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos, New Mexico. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

    Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

    Additional Details

    Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

    Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

    *Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

    New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

    Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

    Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.     Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
