    Job Responsibilities:

    The Senior Manager Supplier Engineering is part of the global sourcing organization and reduces overall supply risk through understanding of supplier capabilities and disaster preparedness using appropriate tools. Abiomed is present in most markets of the world, representing more than $1 billion of revenue with projected strong growth and premier market positions. He is part of all global innovation activities at Abiomed's vendors while building and managing strong vendor relationships that support business objectives and new product introduction. In close collaboration with the other leaders in the sourcing organization he will manage in close cooperation with the Design Engineers the Supply Chain part of key innovation projects and is accountable for conducting effective performance management and meaningful career development.

    Principle Duties and Responsibilities :

    • Directs and develops a part of the global supplier engineering organization of approx. twelve employees (people manager & individual contributors)

    • Demonstrates superior teamwork in working with peers in design engineering, manufacturing engineering, quality, planning & procurement, logistic, regulatory affairs, and lifecycle engineering to facilitate joint innovation projects/programs at suppliers

    • Supply Chain lead for any supplier process development in the framework of innovation projects

    • Provides guidance and technical consultation to other engineers and product-development teams in the areas of requirements, specifications, design, verification, and validation with regards to supplier related topics

    • Designs suitable test protocols as needed following design of experiments (DOE) principles to verify and validate the effectiveness of the process technologies to address yield and quality issues and drive implementation of solutions in a development environment

    • Strong involvement in supplier evaluation and development program

    • Strongly driving scale-up decisions depending on technical supplier capabilities

    • Collaboration with global Supplier Quality Assurance organization ensuring external suppliers are qualified, purchased products and services meet specifications, regulations, and quality standards

    • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and process optimizations

    • Drive the engagement, quality, and output of the core suppliers for new products

    • Reduce overall supply risk through understanding of supplier capabilities & capacities and the implementation of stable processes for new products

    • Identification and realization of cost-saving and cost-reduction opportunities

    Qualifications

    Education

    • A minimum of a Masters in Engineering is required

    Required Skills & Experience:

    • A minimum of 8 years professional experience

    • Experience in business and leadership in multiple roles in Supply Chain, Operations or Engineering field

    • Strong decision-making, problem-solving, continuous improvement, and management skills with the demonstrated ability to deliver results in a timely manner by prioritizing personal workloads, as well as providing guidance and oversight to others

    • Understanding of manufacturing processes, process statistics, and experience in engaging internal stakeholders

    • Passionate about new technologies, naturally inquisitive, and an ability to identify and solve engineering issues

    • Good verbal and written communication skills with ability to confidently present complex information externally and internally

    Preferred Skills & Experience:

    • Skills including, but not limited to, Supplier Management, Innovation Processes, Medical Device Manufacturing, Global Medical Device Regulatory Compliance, Continuous Process Improvement

    • Strong talent development skills

    • Ability to continuously improve the organization

    • Demonstrated flexibility and willingness to respond to changes in the external environment, while ensuring the organization is able to move through transitions effectively and efficiently

    • Continuous improvement/lean/six sigma experience, black belt

    Other

    • This role is based in Danvers, MA and requires up to 30% International travel based on business needs, particularly to visit suppliers and other Abiomed facilities.
