    This Opportunity

    WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Groundwater Treatment Plant Operator for our Portsmouth, New Hampshire field office. Be involved in projects with our WSP USA Earth & Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges.

    This is a full-time position where the Operator will be responsible for operations and maintenance of the Site 8 Interim Mitigation System (IMS) groundwater extraction and treatment system (GWETS). The Site 8 IMS process includes metals precipitation, carbon filtration, ion exchange media, and sludge processing efforts with the primary objective of removing Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) chemicals from associated groundwater.

    Responsibilities include tracking system performance, routine sampling, associated monitoring well gauging, implementing and recommending system optimization efforts, and supervising two other operators. The Operator will be responsible for making minor repairs, coordinating with subcontractors on larger repairs, reporting, and frequent interaction with internal management/engineering staff and outside contractors.

    The position will work out of the two groundwater treatment facilities constructed and operated by WSP at the Pease Tradeport in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The candidate will be required to follow applicable health and safety procedures as well as Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) rules and regulations.

    Who You Are

    Required Qualifications

    • Minimum 10-years of experience with water treatment system operations and maintenance

    • Minimum 10-years' experience with water sample collection

    • Working knowledge of and proficiency with troubleshooting plumping, electrical, and SCADA systems

    • Ability to pass a Transportation Security Administration background check for Airport Security Identification Display Area (SIDA)

    • Strong organizational skills and detail oriented

    • Ability to work independently and effectively manage subordinate staff

    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and Teams

    • Effective technical, written, and verbal communication skills

    • Possess a valid state issued driver's license

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Associate degree or bachelor's degree in environmental science or related field or a New England State issued wastewater treatment license.

    • HAZWOPER 40-hr Training and current 8-hr refresher training

    • Experience with ion exchange and carbon treatment technologies

    • Experience with metals precipitation and settling systems

    • Experience with waste containerizing, tracking, and disposal documentation

    Physical Demands

    • Ability to remain on feet for extended periods of time either stationary or walking

    • Field activities that may require working in unfavorable weather conditions, including heat and cold

    • Completion of annual or bi-annual employment physical, as required

    • Ability to lift 40 pounds
