  • Position Overview

    The Sr. Director, Labor Relations is responsible for proactively leading, advising, and educating field leadership and HR colleagues on regular basis about all labor relations issues of strategic importance including impact on labor relations/labor agreements due to operational changes; partner with senior leadership and strategic business partners to determine/develop short and long-term business strategy relative to labor relations impacts in both bargain and non-bargain locations and to implement needed operating flexibilities to promote maximum workforce productivity, efficiency and effectiveness. In addition, partner with other COEs to develop and implement front-line benefit and wage strategies. This position will report to the Chief Human Resources Officer.

    Key Job Responsibilities

    • Provide direct support to all collective bargaining including representing the Company as the spokesperson in labor negotiations with the support of the CHRO and external counsel in setting bargaining strategies.

    • Oversee the daily administration of collective bargaining agreements at assigned locations and work with HR and others on the Leadership Team.

    • Actively support local HR, managers, and supervisors in the investigation of grievances, including responding to RFI's, with a focus on proactively resolving them internally.

    • Educate and guide local HR, managers and supervisors through the grievance process and partner with Labor & Employment legal team on contract interpretation.

    • Educate local HR managers and supervisors on the effects of historical work practices as well as actions that impact work practices.

    • Develop and maintain on-going lists of management initiatives and proposals for future collective bargaining. Work with finance to model potential outcomes in collective bargaining.

    • Develop and conduct union contract training and with the assistance of the Labor & Employment legal team deliver general labor relations training for local HR, managers, and supervisors.

    • Lead union election campaigns and prevention training and as needed and actively support such activities.

    • Demonstrated experience with mediation and other dispute resolution systems and techniques. Experience managing a dispute resolution program or grievance program.

    • Demonstrated experience managing collective bargaining agreements. Experience with interest-based negotiations and problem solving strongly preferred.

    Job Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree required.

    • 10+ years of experience of demonstrated collective bargaining support, including chief spokesperson experience.

    • The candidate has demonstrated knowledge of the National Labor Relations Act and experience in collective bargaining.

    • Experience in managing a union election campaign to completion is required.

    • Strong understanding of the National Labor Relations Act and any relevant state laws.

    • Ability to communicate orally and in writing in a clear, concise, organized, persuasive manner.

    • Ability to work independently but also perform as a strong team player.

    • Superior interpersonal skills. Able to collaborate with diverse personalities. Tactful and flexible.

    • Ability to work independently and anticipate business needs, being situationally pro-active.

    • Ability to function in a fast-paced work environment, exhibiting agility and sense of urgency, managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.

    Work Environment

    Office

    Work is performed primarily in an office environment. Working times may include irregular hours and on-call status including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
