  • Job Summary

    The Senior Director, Business Alignment is responsible for providing strategic counsel and managing state operating companies' communicators to ensure alignment of defined state communication (gas and electric) strategies and execution. The Sr Director cultivates and manages relationships with key state audiences and partners across the company to enhance interactions with customers, employees, industry groups and community influencers. Responsibilities include managing large-scale budget with scope covering all state-related communication activities and providing direct leadership to a dispersed team in multiple locations.

    Essential Functions

    • Through a deep, intuitive understanding of NiSource's business, especially the state utility organizations, provides strategic counsel to leaders and anticipates their communications needs. Coaches leaders on their communication effectiveness and ensures readiness for significant speaking events and/or presentations to employees and external stakeholders.

    • Partners with senior leaders to assess communication needs, goals, and priorities; provides counsel on approach; and ensures messaging is clear and consistent to meet business needs.

    • Assesses key issues and implements most appropriate responses and risk mitigation strategies.

    • Leverages knowledge of the business and industry to influence decision making and maximize communications both internally and externally.

    • Serves as a member of the Communications Leadership Team providing direction, counsel, and mentoring to a geographically-distributed team and align work to meet business needs.

    • Cultivates and manages relationships with key state audiences and will focus on enhancing the relationship with customers, employees, industry groups and community influencers.

    • Develops and maintains a culture of safety and inclusion and diversity; fosters a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.

    Required Qualifications For Position

    • Bachelor's Degree in communications, journalism, or related field.

    • 12+ years of experience in communications with proven results across internal and external channels.

    • 10+ years of leadership experience

    • Strategic mindset, business maturity, and experience advising and working with senior executives. High

    • Ability to navigate in dynamic business environments and collaborate with diverse stakeholders and teams to drive desired outcomes. High

    • Excellent interpersonal skills with senior executives, direct reports and peers. High

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling messages for different audiences and communication channels. High

    • Ability to translate business needs into action. Medium

    • Excellent knowledge of change management and continuous improvement process and tools. Medium

    • Demonstrated leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate high-performing teams to achieve their full potential. High

    $181,100.00 - $271,800.00
