As a Line Manager reporting to the Manufacturing Director, you will lead the production operations of one line or area at the Portland Bakery. Your primary goal will be to achieve key performance targets in Safety, Quality, Cost, Productivity, Delivery, Sustainability, and Morale (SQCDSM).
You will oversee a team of Production Shift Leads, with operators and technicians reporting indirectly in a unionized environment. Manage a team of Production Shift Leads and oversee processes, general efficiency, and outputs in your manufacturing area. You will work closely with Maintenance, QA, Safety, and Engineering teams to achieve manufacturing goals.
Drive change and transformation within operating teams, particularly during the implementation of IL6S (Integrated Lean Six Sigma), including Autonomous Maintenance (AM) and Progressive Maintenance (PM).
Serve as a role model by demonstrating company values and principles through effective coaching, mentoring, and team development within a unionized environment.
Support the development of annual operational plans to achieve Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, Sustainability, and Engagement goals. Coach Shift Leaders and cascade these plans to ensure employees understand and align with priorities, focus areas, and KPIs.
Foster healthy, collaborative relationships by working in partnership with Trade Union representatives. Build and maintain strong relationships between management and unions at the local level.
Establish strong governance to review and control operational performance and continuous improvement plans. Embed a zero-loss mindset to consistently improve and achieve best-in-class performance both internally and externally.
Lead talent management, capability building, and employee engagement for the manufacturing team. Identify and implement strategies to attract, retain, and develop critical talent, and build technical and behavioral capabilities for a sustainable workforce.
What you will bring
Strong operational and manufacturing leadership experience in a traditional unionized environment within the CPG (Consumer Packaged Goods) industry (ideally food manufacturing), with expertise in TPM (Total Productive Maintenance), 5S, Lean, and Six Sigma tools.
Excellent communication (verbal and written), coaching, and leadership skills in a team-based environment. Proven abilities in analytics, problem-solving, and team-building.
