Description of Work Unit
The Colorado State Forest Service provides technical forestry assistance, wildfire mitigation expertise, and outreach and education to help landowners and communities achieve their forest management goals. The Communications and Communities Division of the CSFS works collaboratively with other CSFS staff and partner agencies to provide outreach and education to the landowners and citizens of Colorado and supports and enhances the outreach efforts of CSFS forestry professionals throughout the state. The division also implements and provides oversight of urban and community forestry programs that directly contribute to the agency's mission of "the stewardship of Colorado's diverse forest environments for the benefit of present and future generations."

Position Summary
Cruising and data collection for forest-wide inventory
Field support on Adaptive Silvicuture for Climate Change projects
Assisting the US Forest Service with GNA work
Chainsaw operation - thinning, firewood, and defensible space work
Assisting with timber sale layout - cruising, boundary delineation, and marking
Various GPS and GIS applications
Assisting with assessment and treatment of insect and disease projects
Position Minimum Qualifications
Must have a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain a driver's license by the employment start date
Pursuing or completed degree in forestry or related natural resources field
Ability to (or willingness to learn how to) operate a manual transmission vehicle
Ability to operate 4-wheel drive vehicles in variable weather and road conditions
Ability to (or willingness to learn how to) operate chainsaws/misc. logging equipment, forestry equipment, and perform strenuous outdoor work in a variety of weather conditions
Ability and willingness to work long hours with occasional evening and weekend duties (work based on a 40-hour work week)
Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team
The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States before the employment start date; Colorado State Forest Service will not sponsor a visa for this position
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written
One season of field experience
Experience in the utilization of Microsoft Suite, ArcGIS Suite, Avenza or GPS
