Scientist - Biologics Discovery (14-month contract)

Amgen British Columbia, located in Metro Vancouver, Canada, is a research center of excellence focused primarily on the discovery of biologics, including fully human therapeutic monoclonal antibodies. We are seeking a highly motivated researcher to join the Antibody Discovery and Screening Team. The incumbent will complement an innovative group with a strong track record of success in pioneering novel antibody-based therapeutics to treat grievous illnesses. The primary responsibilities of this role include leading the implementation of automation solutions to streamline routine lab tasks, managing and tracking samples and data, and enhancing productivity and consistency in laboratory processes.
Responsibilities include
Develop and implement automated workflows to replace manual lab tasks and reducing hands-on time thereby increasing throughput and improving efficiency.
Collaborate with scientists and technical experts to understand their experimental needs and translate them into automated workflows, develop custom programs for lab automation platforms, independently program and validate new methods, and integrate lab automation platforms with other systems to ensure seamless data transfer.
Evaluate and integrate new automation technologies, troubleshooting and resolving complex issues.
Maintain lab automation equipment and coordinating with external vendors for maintenance and repair and ensuring optimal system performance.
Ensure timely project completion and associated tasks, maintain detailed documentation, present project results.
Provide training to laboratory personnel on proper operation and use of automated systems.
This position requires a collaborative approach, working closely with scientists and technical experts to enhance lab operations through automation.

Basic Qualifications:
Doctorate degree
OR
Master's degree & 4 years of directly related experience
OR
Bachelor's degree & 6 years of directly related experience
Preferred Qualifications:
2+ years' of hands-on experience with laboratory high-throughput liquid handling instruments (e.g. Dynamic Devices Lynx, Tecan Freedom EVO, Agilent Bravo, Biomek, Hamilton etc.)
Strong understanding of laboratory techniques and scientific principles
Proficiency in programming languages relevant to automation systems (e.g., Python, C#)
Experience with laboratory equipment and instrumentation
Knowledge of data management systems and utilization
Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills

The annual base salary range for this opportunity in Canada is $96,000 - $130,000 CAD.
