  • Purpose and Scope:

    Inspects and monitors various hazardous operations or tasks, facilities, offices, work locations, systems and equipment and construction activity to assure compliance with applicable local, state and federal safety regulations. Advises management of appropriate safety criteria for the conduct of safe operations.

    Essential Responsibilities:

    Conducts regular safety inspections in all work locations. ~ Inspects job site arrangements, machines, tools, equipment, structures, facilities etc. for safety hazards. ~ Recommends corrective action for safety discrepancies and follows up through leadership. ~ Monitors activities for compliance with company, local, state and federal safety standards, codes, regulations and practices. ~ Investigates accidents to determine their cause, recommends corrective action to eliminate future similar accidents and prepares reports. ~ Checks for proper use of safety equipment such as: safety glasses, goggles, respirators and other protective clothing/equipment. ~ Checks for compliance with safe loads and material handling requirements. ~ Develops and prepares reports as required. ~ Assists in the preparation, development, and revision of safety procedures. ~ Participates in safety committee meetings as required. ~ Provides surveillance of hazardous operations or tests as required by established procedures, manuals, instructions or special requirements. ~ Familiarizes the organizations with the requirements for safety inspections, accident and incident investigations and the goals and objectives of the safety program. ~ Oversee a team of Safety Technicians. Responsible for training, development, and monitoring of performance. Provides plans, monitoring, and appraisals of technician performance. ~ Facilities administration of ESH programs such as permits, JHA development, and training schedules.

    Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

    High school diploma or equivalent with specialized training from a vocational, community college, or accredited institution. Five (5) years related experience which includes safety inspection and accident investigation. Must possess working knowledge of OSHA, Air Force, and other Federal, State, and local statutes. Must possess working knowledge of basic computer operation including word processing, spreadsheet and database software. Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills. Must have a valid driver's license. Position may require travel.

    Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.

    Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

    Most positions involve work typical of office environment with no unusual hazards, occasional lifting to 20 pounds, constant sitting with occasional use of computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must possess planning/organizing skills, and must be able to work under deadlines. Some positions involve work in environments (e.g., outside locations, roofs, etc.) where project work is being performed. Climbing ladders or ascending scaffolding for multiple stories. Non routine lifting of up to 50 pounds, regular handling, grasping, kneeling, and carrying, and constant use of vision and mental alertness is required. This classification may include managing hazardous material or other environmental responsibilities.
