    SUMMARY

    Establish and drive the activities that create a safe, accident-free and healthy work environment by performing the following duties.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    Inspect or tour organization facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards and manage corrective or preventative measures where indicated.

    • Lead and drive the safety culture of the plant by developing and leading a safety committee to ensure all team members are all necessary safety and chemical training.
    • Perform and document Risk Assessments and Job Safety Analysis. Analyze industrial accident cases for use by company personnel.
    • Manage the investigation of accidents and injuries and cooperate in the preparation of material and evidence for organization used in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations.
    • Participate in formulating safety policies and procedures to be followed by the company or plant personnel in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
    • Devise, coordinate, and conduct training programs that will improve and promote safety awareness and proficiency in safe practices.
    • Implement and fully manage a plan for a total safety culture change, focusing on behavior- based safety program and initiatives.
    • Confer with equipment manufacturer's representatives and plant technical and management personnel to discuss alternatives and to choose the most suitable plan on basis of safety, efficiency, and cost effectiveness.
    • Consult with all departments on design and use of equipment to improve and maintain safe operations

    Requirements:

    SAFETY TRAINING To perform this job successfully, an individual must complete and maintain Safety Training according to the Safety Training Matrix.

    QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.     EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

    • Bachelor's degree plus five years of safety-related experience.
    • OSHA 30 training certificate strongly preferred
    • 5 years Chemical and Chemical Plant experience
    • Ability to understand/approve/write/maintain/update ALL SDS and TDS document
    • Ability to organize programs to reduce accidents and other injuries that are related to Spec Chem operations.
    • Defined understanding of the safety hazards related to ALL in plant chemicals.
    • The proper use of personal protective equipment PPE, and maintenance of all PPE.
    • Chemical plant safety training/testing/follow up program, and a safety improvement plan.
    • Utilize existing safety monitoring programs (and design new) using data trends and make necessary changes that will improve safety measures.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers and regulatory agencies. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plan and solid geometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

    REASONING ABILITY

    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

    Employees in this position are required to wear a full-face respirator and comply with TSE Respiratory Protection Program and Title 29 CFR 1910.134. Employees with facial hair or other conditions that would compromise the facepiece-to-face seal cannot work in this position. Examples of these conditions include beards or sideburns that interfere with the facepiece seal or valve function; certain dentures or dental conditions; facial deformities (e.g., scars, deep skin creases, prominent cheekbones); or the use of jewelry or headgear that projects under and interferes with the facepiece seal.
