  • Safety, Quality & Environmental Specialist

    Purpose/Scope

    Performs duties of safety, environmental, and hazardous material (HM) specialist for site operations. Performs safety and environmental inspections and is HM incident point of contact for host Environmental Office. Inspects HM spills and ensures compliance with spill response and containment team in the neutralization of spills. Ensures receipt, stow, issue and shipping processes are safe and meet all EPA, Federal, State, Host, and DLA requirements. Ensures close cooperation of depot with base, local, and Environmental/Safety Offices. Works with little supervision. Reports directly the Site Manager in event of safety or environmental concern.

    Responsibilities

    • Identify, examine, classify, inspect, and report on specific and general issues of safety and environmental. Examinations may be visual or require measuring devices and techniques.

    • Able to use basic processes of inspection/examination procedures for material.

    • Able to successfully certify in Safety and HM training requirements. Must be current in all certifications within 30 to 60 days of selection for position.

    • Prepare reports as required.

    • Operate tools and equipment in performance of duties, and train employees in proper use.

    • Receive data from and input data to automated systems in performance of duties.

    • Operate Material Handling Equipment (MHE), such as forklifts, pallet jacks, as assigned and hold appropriate licenses. Train and certify employees in the use of MHE.

    • Able to make preventive maintenance adjustments to related equipment.

    • Conduct required environmental and safety analysis and observations and supports Environmental, Safety, or Occupational surveillances.

    • Develop and provide environmental and safety training to employees.

    • Develop training presentations and job aids.

    • Evaluate inspection results, develop corrective action plans as needed, and make recommendations as necessary for maintaining compliance with regulatory agencies.

    YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

    • Minimum of five (5) years' experience in the field of Chemical Management Services (CMS) management and environmental and safety program management.

    • High school diploma or GED required. May substitute experience for education at the rate of one year of specific experience for one year of high school.

    • Must have demonstrated ability to obtain certifications required for position.

    • Must be able to use automated distribution systems used at site.

    • Must be able to follow requirements of MIL STD 129.

    • Must be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the environmental and safety compliance fields.

    Work Environment

    Must have the ability to stand, walk, sit, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Must use hand to finger motion and be able to climb and balance. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, and up to 100 pounds with mechanical assistance. Must be able to work in wet or humid conditions. Will work near moving mechanical parts. Will work in high and precarious places. Must be able to have clear close, distance, color and peripheral vision. Must have depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus. May have to work around fumes, air borne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals. May have to work in the outdoors in extreme heat or cold weather. The noise level in this area is moderate.

    The Environmental and Safety Compliance Specialist will work from provided office spaces located on or near Robins Air Force Base.
