    The Retail Credit Underwriter Role

    You will be part of a dynamic, fast paced, critical team at VFS. You support VFS dealers and customers in the truck, construction, and bus industries. You develop relationships with key dealership personnel, customers, and VFS sales channel leaders. You collaborate closely with these individuals to underwrite, negotiate, structure, and provide credit approvals and financing solutions to meet customer needs. You typically adjudicate deals ranging over 8M but may also review smaller transactions. You will work closely with Region Sales Directors with direct customer contact. You will help support VFS dealers and customers as we collectively move forward with EMobility financing solutions across the various transportation segments supported by the Volvo Group. Each day provides unique opportunities for growth and the use of your knowledge and experience to support your team, VFS, and our customers. You will be part of an on-site team in Greensboro reporting to the Director of Retail Credit.

    You are the face and voice of VFS to our dealers and key customers. You are an integral part of the Retail Team and support system for our dealer network. In most cases, you will hold joint calls with the VFS Regional Sales Directors, District Finance Managers, and customers, working directly to support new credit requests, negotiate existing open approvals, provide alternate financing solutions or structures and to support general dealer inquires. You build trust with our dealers, customers, and sales teams to become a trusted advisor.

    What you will do

    You will collaborate with the sales team to review dealer requests, negotiating with dealers and/or customers to review submittals, review customer performance, ascertain financial and other key data. You touch all facets of a deal, including down payment, terms, and guarantor requirements. You provide collateral analysis, determine document requirements, insurance needs, and UCC/PMSI requirements to perfect VFS security and minimize risk. You may be required to negotiate document changes and coordinate with VFS Legal on approval of document changes. You will present transactions direct to the Director of Retail Credit, VP Credit & Risk, or to the appropriate Credit Committee. You will interact with Regional and Global Credit Managers on deals submitted to the Credit Committee. After reviewing all information, you will provide and support a credit recommendation. Based on experience and time, you will have delegated authority to make credit decisions.

    In addition, you will provide support, guidance and mentoring to other Retail Credit Underwriters and Retail Credit Analysts, and other members of the Retail Credit Team. As needed, you will provide back-up and support to the Retail Credit Managers and Director of Retail Credit. As needed, Director level credit authority may be delegated to you.

    Responsibilities:

    Typical transactions will require the review of CPA prepared, tax returns, or customer prepared financials statements. You will spread financial statements and review key financial ratios. Expert level in this skill is necessary for the role. You will use your written and verbal communication skills to provide concise analysis of risk/mitigants of a request and review all relevant information to Know Your Customer and complete OFAC compliance. Certain transactions may require you to meet directly with customers and occasional travel may be needed.

    You will be required to present deals to the Credit Committee and support your credit recommendations.

    In some cases, you will be part of a post-mortem process to provide insights on your own deals and those of your peers. These insights will help ensure continuity and provide opportunities for improvement and efficiency. In addition, you may provide training for other team members including on financial statement spreading and analysis.

    In all cases, you will adhere to The Volvo Way, Code of Conduct, and defined policy requirements. You will continuously look to gain industry knowledge, learn, and support process changes and improvements in the Retail Credit department.

    You hold a BA/BS degree in Business Administration, Finance, or another related field with an MBA a plus. You bring experience in loan or lease in retail or commercial underwriting, banking fields, portfolio asset management or credit/risk management (ideally 10 or more years). This experience has come in a fast-paced, high-volume environment and you should be experienced in all areas of financial analysis and commercial lending. You have experience working with multiple sales channels or credit officers. Communication is critical to success in this role, and you bring fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English to the role. The ability to communicate in additional language(s) a plus! Your team works in Microsoft Office 365 tools, including Teams, Power Bi, Power Apps, and you should have intermediate level skills in MS Excel and other MS Office tools.
