UPMC Presbyterian, a Magnet-designated hospital, is currently hiring a full-time Registered Nurse into a dual-role to support our Surgical Trauma ICU and Neuro Trauma ICU!
UPMC Presbyterian is our Level 1 Trauma Center located in Pittsburgh's Oakland neighborhood. 6F/G is a 22-bed trauma and general surgery unit caring for very high acuity surgical patients as well as victims of severe trauma including blunt force and penetrating injuries. In caring for our patients we utilize ventilators, therapeutic hypothermia, and CVVHD, manage multiple vasopressors and TBI, and perform emergent surgical procedures at the bedside. In addition, we admit overflow neurovascular and stroke patients, and patients with traumatic brain injury.
The UPMC Presbyterian Trauma ICU (4G) is a 10-bed critical care facility serving patients with acute traumatic and neurologic injuries. We perform many procedures at the bedside, including placement of chest tubes, central and arterial lines, cranial monitoring bolts, tracheostomy, bronchoscopy, and ventriculostomy, as well as echocardiography and exploratory laparotomy. On 4G we emphasize teamwork and enjoy strong collaborations between nurses and physicians.

The minimum rate of pay for a non-BSN Professional Staff Nurse is $31.60.

Minimum of 1 year of RN experience required. BSN preferred.
Previous Intensive Care Unit experience preferred.
Completion of UPMC student nurse internship or student clinical transitions course at UPMC preferred.
The individual must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately with the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below.
They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patients status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.
Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with our patients, their families as well as colleagues, support staff, physicians, non-physician providers, other departments, and executives, managers, and hospital leaders.
Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment and handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.
Critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care.
Good clinical judgment.
Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and lead others in applying the nursing process.
Mobility and visual manual dexterity.
Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse
CPR is required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
Must complete licensure examination within FOUR MONTHS of hire or within one year of graduation, whichever comes first. Though temporary permits are valid for one year from the date of graduation, not one year from the issue of the permit (or until the results of the examination are known at which time it becomes null and void), UPMC requires that GNs take the licensure examination within 4 months of their start date or they will be terminated or demoted from the GN position, at the discretion of the BU.
