    Refining Inspector- Area Inspector

    Job Summary:

    The Marathon Los Angeles Refinery has an opening for an Area Inspector who will be the primary contact for support associated with fixed equipment mechanical integrity related issues (e.g., pressure vessels, piping, etc.). The hours of the position are Monday - Thursday, 10-hour days. This position also supports on-call and longer duration events as needed (e.g., upsets, outages, turnarounds, etc.).

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Ensure fixed equipment complies with state regulations, RAGAGEP, and MPC refining standards and specifications.

    • Identify mechanical integrity risks and supports both Operations and Maintenance to mitigate those risks.

    • Perform inspections and monitors condition of area equipment and reports to the Area Team the mitigations for equipment found to need replacement, repair, or continued monitoring. This includes jurisdictional inspections of equipment regulated by CAL DOSH (e.g., Boilers).

    • Ensure equipment files and the IDMS (Inspection Data Management System) are updated and current and works with the RBI Analyst to evergreen and minimize risks.

    • Provide scope and supporting documentation (justification, timing, preparations, etc.), for fixed equipment mechanical integrity related work to Maintenance (Routine, Major Maintenance, Turnarounds, etc.).

    • Drive documentation of as found / as left conditions of the fixed equipment to aid in risk-based work scopes and manages Inspection Recommendation for assigned equipment.

    • Work with Area Team stakeholders to identify and support project development to improve reliability of fixed equipment.

    • Assist team in solving problems through life cycle cost analysis, root cause analysis, HAZOPs, equipment history research, risk-based work selection, MOCs, INTELEX actions, etc.

    • Train in the required areas of responsibility as identified by the Inspection Supervisor.

    • Manage special projects/programs supporting LAR mechanical integrity.

    Education, Experience and Skills:

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Must have High School Diploma or GED. (Education must be obtained/completed prior to start date)

    • Must have a minimum of 5 years inspection experience with fixed equipment in refinery, petro-chemical or other related heavy industry.

    • Must have current API 510 Certification .

    • Must have or ability to obtain State of California Certificate of Competency.

    • Must be proficient with Microsoft: Word, Excel, and Outlook.

    • Must have good communication skills and be able to coordinate and communicate across multiple levels of leadership with various organizations - operations, maintenance, engineering.

    • Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery (respirator), be able to physically perform all tasks in the field and take hair drug test and physical.

    • Travel Requirement is 10% or less.

    • Must have valid driver's license. (MPC determines valid status.)

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Current certifications in API 570 or API 653 is preferred.

    • Experience inspecting and maintaining fixed equipment to RAGAGEP in refining is preferred.

    • Familiar with Risk Based Inspection strategy based on API-580 and 581 is preferred.

    • Experience as a State Inspector of regulated equipment is preferred.
