NATURE OF WORK: TheRecreationInstructor is responsible for teaching a variety of classes to participants of various ages while maintaining a fun and safe environment at all times. Recreation staff have the primary responsibility of ensuring the safety of program participants.

- Ability to listen to, read, understand, and communicate the English language both orally and in writing so others can understand, such as correspondence, report writing, and emails.
- To support consistent high-quality service for our community and each other, it is the expectation of all employees to be punctual and have good attendance and to communicate effectively for scheduling conflicts or when taking leave according to city policy.
- Prepares and creates lesson plans for the instruction of various instructional based programs.
- Responsible for equipment setup and maintenance for assigned classes.
- Provides instruction and oversight to ensure the quality and safety of the assigned class.
- Monitors and evaluates participants performance to offer feedback and ensure progress.
- Adapts class to meet the individual needs of participants.
- Promotes wellness and healthy lifestyles through education and engagement.
- Maintains accurate records of class attendance and participant progress.
- General knowledge of instructing wide variety of dance, fitness, sports, athletics or other areas of non-traditional recreational opportunities.
- Understand and demonstrate skills in various group class instructional opportunities.
- Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Relate and interact well with participants of all ages.
- Help plan, organize and implement activities.
- Plans and implements recreation classes for participants of various ages.
- Helps organize class types, schedules, practices, performances or other desired outcomes for program. .
- Implements proper warm-up and cool-down exercises and strength and endurance-building activities.
- Provides social interaction within classes and a safe environment for all participants.
- Tracks participant attendance and instructor hours for all courses

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSURERequired:
- Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Colorado Driver's License or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
- One year's experience of teaching dance, fitness, sports and athletics or other areas of non-traditional recreation opportunities.
- CPR/First Aid/AED Certification or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
- Current certifications in the recreation area as needed.
PHYSICAL AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT *The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, squat, talk, hear and see. The employee is required to perform lifting 40 pounds. Employee is required to work indoors.
