What You Will DoUsing your skills and subject matter expertise to develop and lead the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Permitting and Compliance Team at Los Alamos National Laboratory. As the Team Leader to 20 environmental professionals in the Environmental Protection and Compliance Division, Waste Management Programs Group (EPC-WMP), a successful manager of the RCRA Permitting and Compliance Team will drive operational excellence; act as the front-line supervisor for the team with a focus on creative problem solving; reporting operational performance metrics; and generate high quality deliverables. This position oversees the following programs: RCRA Hazardous Waste Facility Permit (HWFP) management, review of institutional activities for RCRA compliance, and interface with other organizations at the Laboratory. Central to this position is the ability to effectively manage team members to achieve and exceed goals, milestones, and deliverables; contribute directly to the Laboratory's annual Agenda on waste initiatives; and help foster a professional and collaborative working environment. Process improvements are a key part of this position.
What You NeedDemonstrated experience providing effective and positive technical, project, and professional leadership and management to an inclusive team/organization in all aspects of organizational management including directing assignments, mentoring, coaching and talent development, personnel retention, recruiting, performance and salary management, and succession planning, while ensuring a safe, secure, and positive work environment. Demonstrated personnel management experience fostering a mutually respectful and inclusive work environment free from discrimination and harassment, encouraging open communications, engaging with workers in the field, rewarding positive behavior, and addressing deficiencies through accountability. Experience managing and motivating Team members to ensure on-time, high quality deliverables, addressing challenges, supporting customers, and implementing improvement opportunities.
RCRA Waste Compliance and OperationsSolid knowledge and experience with federal and state environmental and waste management regulations with an emphasis on the implementation of hazardous waste management and RCRA permitting requirements and regulations.
CollaborationExperience collaborating across organizational boundaries with developed communication and interpersonal skills; professionally interacting with managers, regulators, customers, and waste generators; fostering effective mutually beneficial working relationships with the ability to change mindsets or gain acceptance to maintain compliance without damaging relationships.
Strategic Planning and Tactical ExecutionStrong record of setting objectives, managing risk, eliminating obstacles and challenges, meeting milestones, and communicating progress.
Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and 5 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.Detailed knowledge of the following: RCRA permitting; RCRA hazardous waste management requirements including, waste characterization, storage, treatment, and disposal; and/or the requirements associated with hazardous and/or mixed waste generation, treatment of hazardous and/or mixed wastes. Demonstrated experience preparing and reviewing waste management documents, related to RCRA permitting and/or general hazardous waste management requirements, to ensure quality and accuracy. Knowledge and experience with solid waste regulations and/or the Toxic Substances Control Act.
Federal/DOE ExperiencePrevious experience managing a waste or environmental organization or program associated with the Federal or State government sector.
ClearanceActive DOE "Q" or other Top Secret clearance.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos and/or Santa Fe, New Mexico.
