Denver Urban Gardens started as a grassroots movement in the late 1970s when gardeners in Denver's Northside neighborhood came together to create a space for a group of local Hmong women to grow their own food. Working collaboratively, they transformed a vacant parking lot into what is now the Pecos Community Garden, and over the following years, more community gardens began to spring up as the group helped other neighbors do the same. In addition to our gardens, DUG programs provide access, skills, and resources to help people grow food in community and regenerate urban green space. Position Summary
Denver Urban Gardens ( DUG ) Corps members serve as program activators, building DUG's capacity to fulfill its mission to provide access, skills, and resources for people to grow healthy food in community and regenerate urban green spaces. Members will provide key program support and represent DUG throughout metro Denver. This is a three-quarter time (1,200 hours) AmeriCorps position. Service will begin with the new member orientation on February 10, 2025.
DUG's Garden/Field Operations team works together to meet the needs of our Community Garden and Food Forest networks of food producing spaces. The team does notdirectly engage with the planting, growing, and harvesting of our community garden plots. This position will be integrated with the team to support in workday and field strategy meetings throughout the season. Training and personal protective equipment as needed on all technical tasks assigned to this role will be provided.
Term of Service / Time Commitment:
This is a three-quarter time AmeriCorps national and community service position requiring, at a minimum, a total of 1200 hours during the term (approximately 30 hours/week). The position begins February 10, 2025, and ends October 31, 2025. The member will develop a schedule with leadership that ensures enough opportunity to meet the minimum number of service hours.
Training and Support Provided: Members receive significant training and experience in community engagement, project implementation, leadership, diverse populations, and more. Up to 20% (or 340 hours) of total hours served may be spent in applicable approved trainings. Member will be supervised and supported by Taylor Kibble, Garden Projects Manager, as well as by Melinda Macpherson, RamCorps Program Manager,~~~. The cohort of members serving throughout the region will act as additional resources and support for each other.
This position is based atDenver Urban Gardens (1031 33rd Street #100.Denver, CO, 80205). Members will serve at the DUG offices in Denver, in the field at garden sites and event locations throughout the DUG network, and some hours may be served remotely.
A living allowance of approximately $1,377.89 for three-quarter time members (1200 hours) per pay period on a bi-weekly cycle for an approximate total of $26,180.00 for the term of service. Taxes are deducted and the living allowance is distributed by direct deposit to the member.
An education award of $5,176.50 is earned upon successful completion of term of service.
It is possible to temporarily postpone repayment of qualified student loans through forbearance while serving as an AmeriCorps member.
Mileage reimbursement for travel to required trainings and days of service.
Access to ongoing professional development trainings and resources through the university.
Experience serving with professionals in the field with on the ground training.

Position Minimum Qualifications
At least 18 years old at start of service.
High school diploma or G.E.D.
Be a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States.
Able to pass a National Service Criminal History Check (state, FBI , and National Sex Offender Public Website checks) per 45 CFR 2540.202.
Wear official AmeriCorps identity items such as name tag, T-shirts, and lapel pins during all AmeriCorps service.
Be willing to provide direct services, strengthen the community or build the capacity of the organization as described in the position description.
Interest in gardening, community building, education, and/or fieldwork.
Ability and willingness to serve in a position 5 days a week, Monday - Friday, with occasional weekends and evenings as needed.
Ability to use a computer for e-mail communication and online reporting.
Able to be respectful, collaborative, and constructive in working environments.
Personal and professional commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Must have a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain a driver's license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of and/or service experience in one or multiple of DUG's pillars: food, community, and climate.
Passion for community building and making new connections.
Proficiency in language(s) other than English.

Be on-site support for DUG led volunteer workdays in existing gardens, including tool and supplies loading and unloading, site set up, prep and material staging, leading volunteers in building, repairing and maintenance of garden features for accessibility support and risk mitigation.
Be on ground support for new garden builds, including receiving material deliveries, site preparation, marking and staking out project areas, and pre-measuring and cutting lumber.
Support in executing sustainability installation projects, including water tank installation, replacing PVC spigot risers with galvanized steel, message board construction and installation, and other safety and accessibility improvement projects.
Meet garden maintenance needs in a timely manner as assigned by DUG Garden/Field Operations Staff including irrigation repair, fence repair, garden plot/bed repair and general clean up support.
