    The QC Inspection Specialist will perform a variety of quality assurance and control duties. This role will operate highly technical tools such as Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES), Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) and X-Ray Fluorescence Spectroscopy (XRF) analyzers for testing carbon steel materials and to perform Positive Material Identification (PMI) of stainless, low and high alloy steels.

    Key Duties & Responsibilities

    The Role's responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Operate and maintain OES, LIBS and XRF equipment to test material chemistry with extreme accuracy, particularly for HF Alky service materials with low residual elements.

    • Conduct PMI to determine material composition, ensuring compliance with ASTM material types, grades, and element percentages.

    • Perform customer-related inspections, third-party inspections, internal quality audits, and other quality assurance/control tasks.

    • Inspect a wide range of piping materials, including pipe, tubing, fittings, flanges, valves, gaskets, bolts, nuts, and more, manufactured to various material specifications.

    • Use precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, thread gages, tape measures, scales, rulers, OES, LIBS and XRF PMI equipment to ensure materials meet specification requirements.

    • Ensure all equipment is maintained in current calibration status, issue purchase orders for calibration services, and update calibration records in the MRC Global Equipment and Calibrations Database.

    • Select samples for inspection, document inspection results, maintain inspection records, and input results into MRC Global AML and Quality Inspection and Testing Databases.

    • Document nonconforming materials in the MRC Global Nonconformance Database.

    Required Experience

    • Undergraduate degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience that provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

    • Advanced PMI training using OES, LIBS and XRF analysis equipment.

    Skills & Abilities

    • Strong understanding of material specifications and PMI techniques.

    • Experience with precision measuring equipment.

    • Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.

    • Ability to manage calibration processes and maintain accurate records.

    • Working knowledge of warehouse distribution operations including shipping, receiving, packaging, inventory controls, etc.

    • Working knowledge of, or ability to learn the industry standards, quality codes, and customer specifications involved in MRC Global's quality process.

    • Strong reasoning and reading skills to be able to review and interpret quality codes and to analyze potentially nonconforming material.

    • Self-starter and good communicator with the ability to work as both an effective quality inspector and as a member of a team.

    • Ability to operate forklifts, order pickers, cranes, and other typical warehouse material handling equipment

    • Ability to manage direct reports to accommodate changing requirements and to fulfill all departmental responsibilities.

    • Ability to effectively analyze quality data and to present results, determine trends, etc.

    • Ability to recognize the need for process change, and a willingness to implement changes when beneficial to the department and to MRC Global.

    Working Conditions

    • Physical activity/exertion is routine.

    • Able to lift 25-50 pounds over head.

    • May be exposed to loud noises.

    • Able to stand for long periods of time.

    • Operate heavy machinery/tools (as required).

    • PPE required.

    • Able to work overtime and weekends.

    • Able to work in the elements, such as in extreme temperatures (hot/cold).
