Overview:
Radio Free Asia (RFA) is a private, Washington, DC-based, nonprofit corporation that provides accurate and timely news and information to Asian countries whose governments prohibit access to a free press. We are seeking a highly skilled technician to support RFA’s publishing systems and the journalists who use them.
The Publishing Support specialist will work across editorial and technology teams to help RFA journalists most effectively and efficiently create and release content, and to troubleshoot problems when they arise. The person in this role on our Technical Operations team will be a key player in RFA’s rollout of new publishing technology over the next year, including a new content-management system, new media asset management system and other technology.
This is a 5-month assignment position, following a 3-day/week in our Washington DC office, 2-day/week remote hybrid work arrangement.
Responsibilities:
Become an expert super-user in the technologies RFA teams use to create and publish content
Train editorial staff to use RFA technologies, from our CMS to our MAM to other tools
Create training materials and documentation to help editorial teams build their understanding of our systems
Provide live and on-call support for teams of journalists as they publish material from our bureaus around the world. This will require evening and weekend work as assigned
Work with web developers, product managers, and others to track issues that our users encounter and ensure they’re resolved
Help onboard new technologies as they’re added to RFA’s publishing pipelines
Qualifications:
Associate’s, BS or BA degree in computer science or related field; experience in lieu of degree considered.
Minimum of 3 years experience on a support or help desk, helping customers with varying levels of technical savvy understand complex systems.
Experience supporting customers on a content-management system, especially within a news organization, is highly desired.
Minimum of 3 years experience training teams to use complex systems
Experience working with development teams who create and maintain complex systems
An approachable, professional demeanor and ability to react to technical issues with speed and empathy
Experience writing documentation that explains technical concepts for a non-technical audience
Ability to collaborate across departments in a multilingual newsroom and with teams across multiple time zones
Proficiency in one or more of the languages spoken by RFA audiences is a plus, but not required
Previous experience working with a news organization is highly desired, but not required.
