Seeking public relations manager

The Precourt Institute seeks a public relations manager reporting directly to the director of communication. A substantial amount of the public relations manger's work will be executing many of the duties in support of the institute's Aqueous Battery Consortium, a major, multi-university, research project led by the Precourt Institute. This position should result in the development of advanced written skills and domain knowledge. The public relations manager will contribute to communications that advance and elevate the visibility of the Aqueous Battery Consortium and Stanford's energy research, education, and engagement.

The public relations manager will promote the Aqueous Battery Consortium and other major energy events, develop collateral materials, and manage media requests. Other tasks involve updating the public database of energy researchers, tracking experts cited in the media, and monitoring metrics for communication impact. This position offers a valuable opportunity to contribute to impactful communications while advancing written communication skills.

Responsibilities include :

• • Produce articles on significant advances in energy research published by principal investigators, notably for the Aqueous Battery Consortium's research.
• • Promote these news items on Stanford ENERGY communication channels: the Precourt Institute's website, (i.e., ~~~), social media channels, weekly newsletter, and annual Stanford ENERGY Research Year in Review.
• • Develop profiles of principal investigators and researchers for the Aqueous Battery Consortium, Stanford faculty, staff researchers, students, postdoctoral scholars, and alumni working on sustainable energy.
• • Write articles on significant developments within the Aqueous Battery Consortium, and the institute's initiatives and programs.
• • Publish material on major events hosted by the Aqueous Battery Consortium and the institute's initiatives and programs.
• • Work collaboratively to produce collateral materials, including reports for the Aqueous Battery Consortium, the institute's annual report, slide presentations, and director correspondence.
• • Track and report social media, web, and newsletter metrics for the impact of the institute's communication activities.
• • Monitor energy research, education, and engagement news.
• • Help manage media interview requests.
• • Update and maintain the institute's energy researcher public database.
• • Track and report on Stanford energy experts quoted in major news outlets.
• • Ensure media lists are current and targeted to specific news topics.
• • Invite reporters to cover such events and assist media during events.

Core duties include but are not limited to the following :

• • Provide public relations support for audiences that are both internal and external to the university.
• • Plan and execute activities to support public relations objectives.
• • Develop, execute and oversee written communications of moderate complexity, including presentations, speeches, news stories, web content, talking points, and correspondence and social media posts.
• • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external partners
• • Participate in regular meetings of key researchers with media relations needs to develop strategies and tactics for facilitating effective communications.
• • Identify and maintain professional relationships with key press, policy influencers and community leaders.
• • Prepare content for internal or external newsletters. Understand email and digital content distribution.
• • Assist in developing strategies for brand managements, reputation management and issues management of moderate complexity.
• • Assist with the design and implementation of effective constituent communications programs and social media strategies.
• • Serve as a project leader for public relations activities of small to moderate complexity.

Please note this position may require occasional work on evenings and weekends or non-standard hours based on project or business needs.

To be successful in this position, you will need :

• • Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
• • Excellent written communication skills, reporting skills, and advanced skills in conceptual editing, copy editing, and proofreading.
• • Ability to work collaboratively with internal communications groups across campus.
• • Demonstrated interpersonal skills in working with a variety of people.
• • Capacity to write and synthesize materials and communicate information in a manner easily understood.
• • A personal commitment to the advance of sustainable, affordable, secure energy for all people, and of environmental sustainability broadly.
• • Experience with Mailchimp, LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Salesforce, and web content management systems (CMS) such as Drupal.
• • Some knowledge of energy science, technology, policy, economics, and business.
• • Ability to work with a large group of constituents at the institute, across campus, and beyond.

The expected pay range for this position is $109,969 to $135,664 per annum.

Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
