  • Position Purpose

    About the Opportunity

    Shell Canada is seeking for a Project Engineer - Instrument & Controls (also known as Project Engineer internally) to join their Shell Scotford Upgrader team

    This team member will manage a portfolio of projects from the Select phase through to close-out, ensuring both home office and field execution oversight. They will collaborate with Production, Maintenance, Construction and Turnaround (MCTA), and engineering disciplines at Scotford to deliver projects. This individual will be accountable for the safety, quality, cost, schedule, and delivery of the agreed-upon scope of work for each assigned project.

    Accountabilities

    • Manage projects using the Shell Opportunity Realization Work Process

    • Act as lead of all projects from initial definition and detailed design through execution and final close-out

    • Manage key activities including cost and schedule management, resource planning, contracting and procurement, facilitating detailed design reviews, and fostering a team culture that supports project goals

    • Support multi-discipline projects with a strong understanding and ability to collaborate with technical disciplines beyond core expertise

    • Collaborate with the Production Area Teams to assess and effectively handle project and technical risks

    • Interface with production and maintenance planning to plan and deliver a quality start-up in a brownfield setting, managing the Operations Readiness, Completions and Commissioning & Start Up (C&SU) aspects of the Project to Asset Transition phase

    • Interface closely with Engineering, Procurement, Construction (EPC) companies to complete project engineering requirements based on the phase of the project

    • Accountable for ensuring safety, quality, cost management, scheduling, and the successful delivery of the agreed scope for each assigned project

    Skills & Requirements

    • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

    • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering required, Electrical Engineering preferred

    • Professional Engineer (P. Eng) or must be eligible for accreditation with APEGA in a Professional Engineering capacity

    • Minimum 6 years' experience in Instrumentation and Control Project Engineer preferably in project management and a combination of project management and discipline engineering

    • Strong coaching, mentoring and leadership skills, in order to guide the Engineering Procurement contractors and other relevant stakeholders

    • SAP experience is preferred

    • PMP certification is preferred

    • Experience working with new digital platforms, prototype communication technology and advanced construction/fabrication methods is considered an asset

    • Experience implementing Continuous and/or work process Improvements is considered an asset

    • Experience working with Contract negotiation and Procurement is considered an asset

    • May be required to fill a reserve worker role
